Finding You, Genevieve Chapter 38
At Lorenzo and Luis's trial—The Quartermaine, Skye, Lila Rae, Carman, Skylar, Morgan, Rae, Victor, and Bianca were all present as Lorenzo and Luis Jr. entered, followed by Genevieve and Judge Alexis. Everyone rose as the judge asked, "Jury, have you reached a verdict?" "Yes, Your Honor," the jury replied. He handed the verdict to the judge, who read it and then returned it to the jury. Lorenzo and Luis Jr. stood up. "On the charge of drug trafficking against Lorenzo Alcazar, we find him guilty and are asking for life in prison. On the charge of drug trafficking against Luis Alcazar Jr., we find him guilty and are asking for life in prison," the jury announced. "Thank you, jury, for your service," the judge said. "Lorenzo and Luis Jr., I sentence you to ten to twenty years in jail. Mr. Alcazar, I hope you're happy—you wanted your son to work with you, and now he's going to jail too. Both of you will be behind bars until you're old and grey," the judge declared. "I would like to say something," Lorenzo interrupted. "Go ahead," the judge responded. "I'm sorry that my choices in life hurt my family. This isn't what I wanted, but I could not give up power—not for anyone. I do love you all, even you, Genevieve," Lorenzo said. She couldn't bring herself to look at him. "Genevieve, look at me!" Lorenzo yelled, rushing to her side. "Do you hate me that much? I could be killed in jail!" he exclaimed. "You did this to yourself," Genevieve replied. A police officer came and took him away from her. "Pull yourself together," the judge advised. "Yes, Your Honor," Lorenzo mumbled. "I know this is hard for both sides, but maybe with this, you can find some healing," the judge said. "Your Honor, I can handle going to jail, but not my son," Lorenzo confessed. "I'm sorry, Luis. You should have thought about that before deciding to work with him. This case is now closed," the judge declared. Lorenzo and Luis Jr. were taken to their cells.
Genevieve packed papers into her case as Skye approached. "So, you got what you wanted," Skye said. "I didn't want all of this. I don't want them to be killed in jail, but Dad certainly thought about that before he did this. You're not mad at me, mother—you're mad at yourself because you never stood up to him. I heard you used to be like me," Genevieve responded. "Not as cold as you," Skye shot back. "At least I'm not weak," Genevieve retorted as AJ approached. "Uncle AJ, take her away," Genevieve said. "Her? I'm your mother," Skye yelled. "I always wished I was adopted when I was little—that's why I was so different from all of you," Genevieve admitted. Victor came over. "Come on, Ginny," Victor said. "Why do you stand by her? She's never going to give you what you want—a marriage and a child," Skye said. Genevieve, Victor, and Bianca left. "Skye," AJ called. "I need to see my husband and son before they go to Stateville," Skye said. "Do you want me to go with you?" AJ asked. "No," Skye replied. "She doesn't mean it," AJ reassured. "Genevieve is like me—when she's hurting, she hurts back," Skye added. "Yes," Skye agreed.
At Lorenzo's cell—Lorenzo was in his cell talking to Peter. "I'm sorry," Peter said. "I'm sure I screwed up—you're a horrible lawyer," Lorenzo responded. "Your daughter is tough to beat, she's that good," Peter said. "Just go," Lorenzo ordered. Peter left as Skye entered. "Lorenzo," she said. "I'm sorry, Skye, about all this. You sure left me a long time ago," Lorenzo said. "Don't say that—I love you, and I don't regret our love or our children, not even Genevieve," Skye defended. "I don't regret her either. She's a great lawyer," Lorenzo agreed. "Yes," Skye nodded. "Yesterday in court, she was wearing the bracelet Alexander gave her when they were little," Lorenzo mentioned. "Why are you talking about this?" Skye asked. "I think she's still in love with him," Lorenzo replied as Genevieve entered. "What do you want now? You got what you wanted," Lorenzo asked. "No, not quite. Did you poison Alexander? Just tell me, and I won't charge you with his murder," Genevieve demanded. "No, I didn't. I told you before—it wasn't me," Lorenzo insisted. "Why are you asking about him? You ask me how I can love a man like your father, but I could ask you the same—how can you still love a man who hurt you?" Skye questioned. "Hurt me?" Genevieve exclaimed. "Yes, Alexander left me on our wedding day, but he wasn't like him," she added. "I never hurt your mother the way he hurt you," Lorenzo said. "What? How did you find out about that? I never told anyone," Genevieve said. "I overheard you talking to Constanza about it. I wish you had told me," Skye replied. "How dare you eavesdrop on my conversation with my cousin? I just want to know if you killed him," Genevieve demanded. "No, so you still love him?" Lorenzo inquired. "No, it's for Bianca," Genevieve replied. "Really? So, wearing the bracelet he gave you—it's for Bianca?" Lorenzo asked. Genevieve was still wearing it. "Why should I care who you love? I'm going to jail," Lorenzo said. "Yes, you are. Don't care about me. I don't need you both," Genevieve retorted, leaving.
