Throughout the night, the air was filled with loud music and the clinking of glasses. Faye's brief encounter with the band had definitely left an imprint on her. But now she felt a sense of ease without the previous pressure and nervousness of being around them.
Blake and Mark seemed to blend effortlessly into the people out there, becoming indistinguishable among the throng. However, Faye found solace in Amy's presence by her side, feeling like a pair of misfits in the lively scene. Despite the sensation of standing out, they chose to shrug off any concerns about others' perceptions and instead, danced to each other's company. At some point in the night, Amy turned to her, curiosity mixed with a few drinks. "So, what did you think of the band?" she inquired, a suggestive grin on her face.
She paused, recalling the performance. "They were incredible, I really liked that second song and..." Amy interrupted, pushing for more insight.
"No, I meant what did you think of them as 'regular dudes'? You know, like Mark said they were." Amy clarified her intentions with the question.
Faye felt a rush of shyness wash over her as she stumbled for words. "Um, they were really nice," she replied hesitantly. "They even laughed at my stupid joke."
Amy went a little further. "I think they're really cute," she teased. "In fact, I wouldn't mind being their cheerleader." She said, quoting Faye's earlier joke.
Both of them started to laugh, Faye shook her head, dismissing Amy, who didn't let the moment slip away without sharing her thoughts. "Honestly, I'd love to be around bands, experience backstage life, and hit the road,"
Faye, considering the idea, replied, "It sounds both exhausting and exciting," especially because she was starting to feel tired herself. Faye couldn't deny the creeping fatigue that settled within her, though she chose not to burden anyone. Amy, eyeing her empty glass, announced her intention to get more drinks. Sensing a chance to steal a moment's respite, Faye cast a quick glance towards an empty spot on an armchair and hurried over. Despite her attempt to rest, the buzzing ambiance of the surroundings kept her mind racing, rendering it impossible to truly unwind. She closed her eyes a bit, frowning her features, the lights were very disturbing at that point.
"You've claimed my spot, I see." She opens her eyes to the image of Kurt leaned against a nearby amp, lightning up a cigarette. His piercing gaze meeting Faye's with an unspoken depth that made her avoid direct eye contact at first.
She chuckled softly. "What can I do? It looked so inviting... But since you're claiming it," She said while mentioning standing up.
He shook his head. "Nah, it's alright. Besides, looks like you could use a rest."
"Well, it's catching up to me." She sighed.
His expression relaxed. "That's exactly why this is my spot," Kurt glanced around, nodding towards the energetic crowd. "All of this can be draining sometimes."
Their exchange lingered, a comfortable silence falling between them as they soaked in the fading ambiance of the night.
"But you're probably more exhausted than I am, you know, being a college kid and all," he proceeded to engage in conversation, for Faye's surprise.
She managed a small laugh, her weariness momentarily forgotten. "Now who's to say, you've got a rockstar life. I bet that is much more complicated than my average academic pursuits".
Kurt shrugged nonchalantly, a ghost of a smile playing on his lips. "I guess you could say that. It's a different kind of crazy. So what are you studying?"
Faye smiled, but her enthusiasm seemed somewhat restrained. "English. It's been great so far—immersing myself in all those books, exploring the minds of the writers."
