Sunsets, small town, I'm out of time

As October drew to an end, Kurt returned to the country, but despite his presence, the distance between him and Faye remained unchanged. Their schedules seemed to conspire against them, leaving little opportunity for them to meet. He was forever consumed by the band duties, tirelessly navigating the complexities of the music industry. He juggled rehearsals, studio sessions, all while exploring prospects for Nirvana's future. He pondered the idea of parting ways with Sub Pop in search of a greater landscape for their music.

Meanwhile, Faye was immersed in the academic whirlwind of college life. With midterm exams looming on the horizon before Thanksgiving break, she was determined to excel in her studies. Yet, amidst her demands, college served more as a distraction. Nevertheless, focusing on her academic performance provided a temporary respite from the ache of being separated from Kurt.

Despite their inability to meet in person, they maintained regular phone calls, cherished moments that Faye held dear as her personal treasures, a temporary escape from the harsh reality.

"So, how's Seattle been treating my girl so far?" Kurt's voice came through the phone, warm and comforting.

Faye let out a sigh, her frustration evident in her tone. "It's so boring without you," she admitted with annoyance. "It's gloomy, and it's been nothing but me and the library."

Kurt chuckled softly. "Ah, the glamorous life of a college student."

"Yeah, tell me about it," Faye retorted, her tone laced with sarcasm. "But don't worry, babe. I'm not exactly pining away for excitement. No other man could handle all this," she added teasefully.

Kurt laughed, the sound washing over her like a balm. "That's what I like to hear. And hey, at least I don't have to worry about some jerk trying to sneak his way into your life while I'm gone."

"Yeah, good luck to anyone who tries," she said confidently.

"And what are your plans for Thanksgiving?" He asked hopefully.

She hesitated for a moment before responding, her words lingering with reluctance and longing. "Oh, well, I must head home. I haven't been back since the beginning of the semester. Not that it would be my first option or anything," she admitted, sounding as if she didn't want to leave but felt she had to.

"I get you," Kurt understood the feeling all too well. "Sometimes it's so easy to avoid it all," he offered, relating to the feeling of escape that Faye seemed to be experiencing.

"But that's good," he continued, trying to sound encouraging. "Maybe I could come to you. I'll be in Aberdeen for the holiday."

His words lit up her heart with joy. "Really?"

"Yeah, besides, Aberdeen is pretty close to you," Kurt reassured her.

"I can't wait for that," her voice practically sparkling with excitement.

"And there's more," he added.  "We'll be having a concert on the 25th in Seattle."

"Now that's the best thing ever! A Nirvana concert just after the Thanksgiving break? Am I dreaming?" Faye exclaimed, her anxiety bubbling over.

Kurt laughed at her response, "Well, I'm certainly dreaming of you," his words filled with affection.

Faye was practically buzzing with excitement after Kurt's announcement. Thanksgiving was just one week away, and the thought of reuniting with him after a significant time apart filled her with nothing but a thrilling sensation only Kurt could make her feel. Suddenly, the idea of going back home for the holiday didn't seem so bad after all.

In the days leading up to Thanksgiving, Faye was immersed in a turmoil of emotions. Despite her excitement to see Kurt again, she couldn't shake off the lingering worry about her exams prior to the holiday. The pressure of performing well weighed heavily on her mind. Even with her best efforts to focus on her exams her mind often drifted to the prospect of seeing him again. She couldn't help but feel a sense of nervousness mingled with a rush at the thought of finally being in his arms once more.
