Pairing: Sixbones/Papyrus & Sans x Reader
Prompt: Alphys calls you in a panic after you entrust Papyrus into her care, and you haven't seen Sans in days. You can't make anything out from Alphys' blabbering so you're forced to investigate for yourself, your only clue being a wail of the damned.
Type: horror, unsettling, fluff...?, these poor skeletons...
Length: 3.3k words

Notes: What has she done?

The news you expected to hear was not the news you got, and despite already being out the door with only one shoe on as you crunched through wet snow, you tried to convince yourself Alphys was just panicking needlessly. You knew the lizard was naturally anxious, so she called you down to Hotland because she was worried, not because there was actually something wrong...Yeah, you weren't very convincing.
"What happened??" You shouted into the phone, ignoring all the strange looks from the monsters you were rushing past. Stopping to hobble and try to cram your second shoe on, Alphys stuttered out a reply that was more awkward syllables than actual decipherable words. "Alphys, slow down and talk to me. What's going on with Papyrus?" The fact that she was able to call you at all with jittery hands seemed like a miracle right now - she'd devolved into soft cries and 'I'm sorry's as a faint noise in the background the phone struggled to pick up seemed to get louder.
She hiccupped after every word. "It's n-not- He's- I'm-" You let out a sigh, watching steam rise in quick pants in front of you as you ran as fast you could for Alphys' lab. You'd get the answer to your question soon enough.
"I'll be there soon, Alphys. Just..." You wet your lips with a quick swipe of your tongue. "Get comfortable." A loud wail in the background made your blood freeze, causing you to slip in the snow and nearly crash, but you ended the call and stuffed the phone in your pocket the next second to concentrate on running. You wondered if, on the off chance you made it back to the surface, would you qualify to be an Olympic runner? Because it sure felt like you were putting them to shame.
Every day without Papyrus in the house felt endless, but Sans refused to leave his side, making the house you once shared with the brothers feel hollow. Sans found his way back into his bed at least a couple times over the weeks Papyrus was stuck in Alphys lab, clinging to life by a thread. It was you that found him - Sans was busy sleeping the day away, unaware that they were supposed to be out patrolling hours before, and you came into Papyrus' room to check on him. The hair on the back of your neck stood on end the second you saw him like a sixth sense was telling you that this wasn't just him feeling under the weather but something entirely different.
You grabbed Sans in a panic, and he teleported to Papyrus' room, immediately feeling the exact same fear as you: like Papyrus was on the cusp of falling over and dusting. Then he picked his brother up and disappeared. You stayed in contact the rest of the day with an anxious Sans, and that alone scared you despite his attempts to assure you that everything was fine. Sans was never anxious, cool as a cucumber in every scenario, no matter how dire - but now? He insisted Alphys had things under control, and you almost believed him after he told you Papyrus was feeling a lot better and they'd be home soon. Today was soon, but instead of receiving a happy surprise in the form of the skeleton brothers bantering in the living room when you woke up, the house was empty and Alphys called you in the midst of a panic attack.
By the time you made it to the Hotland lab, you were wobbling on burning legs and your gasps of air nearly drowned out your banging on the lab door. Your lungs were on fire but you didn't dare to slow the whole way here, and while you waited for Alphys to answer, you took in greedy lungfuls of air with your hands on your knees. Your patience ran out quickly so you opened the door and ran inside, calling out to Alphys.
