Pairing: XTale/Cross Sans x Female Reader
Prompt: Nightmare pits Y/n and Cross against each other, establishing a long-standing rivalry between the two that slowly escalates until the only way it's going to end is when one of them kills the other.
Length: 11.3k words
Type: long story w/smut at the end
Background: I usually make the skeletons stronger bc Y/n typically doesn't have the EXP/LV to match them, but in UnderTale canon, humans are more powerful than monsters. So for once, I'm gonna play by those rules cuz this Y/n actually has the EXP to go toe-to-toe with the Bad Sanses...
Notes: I don't typically like reducing Killer to just a perv or Nightmare to just an evil boss, but for this one, I decided to conform to what the requestor wanted. I'm aware this fandom is more fanon than canon, and as much as I like breaking that stereotype, fanon can be fun to play with too - especially when it's only side characters. | But since I'm incapable of not getting too deep, it turned into a character dissection of Cross 😬 And I dabble in the psychology of why rivalries form and how a dad Nightmare can pit two people against each other with manipulation tactics.

(Y/n)'s head shot back from the blow to her chin, and her teeth caught her lip as they were forced together by Cross' fist. Blood filled her mouth as she stumbled away, barely managing to use the shaft of her spear to block his twin daggers from cutting her head off as she regained her footing. Her tongue darted over the fresh wound on her lip while she met the cold indifference in Cross' white eyelights, and his sockets narrowed subtly as he pressed forward, forcing her poleaxe down. She let it drop as she flipped up and over it, switching places with the skeleton and using the sharp end of the spear to keep him far enough away for her to gain her bearings before she jabbed it at him.

He dodged it, using his daggers to knock it away, but for just one moment, he was off balance. And that one moment was all it took. She hooked the curved blade around his ankle and tugged, causing him to stumble and fall to the mat on the floor. She was on him the next second, holding him down with the shaft pressed against his throat and a hand each above his shoulders around the spear.

Fresh pain lit up her right arm and she sucked in a deep breath through grit teeth, slamming her knee into his elbow to knock the dagger from his grip and pinning it down to the ground as blood trickled down her arm where he cut her. "Another one for the collection?" a grating voice called, but she didn't look up, more intent on avoiding the other dagger as it attempted to jab into her side to get her off of him. "How many of your scars did Cross give you? I'm almost jealous you're letting him mark you up like that." The suggestive tone made her scowl but she said nothing, focusing instead on watching Cross choke as his sockets blinked rapidly and he writhed in desperation. His pinned arm fought to get free but (Y/n)'s knee dug into his elbow, leaving it to uselessly clutch at air in an effort to grab the blunt end of the poleaxe.
