Heyyy

I feel like I'm inevitably going to end up making another HTTYD one shot lmao I can't help myself!

Ok it's like sad? But in a cute way? If I make a part two there might be lore

James was walking through the forest, admiring the different plants that grew there and waving to the creatures he knew were friendly. James had made a habit of taking time to walk here ever since Regulus had been sent away, this was their place that they'd go to every afternoon but since the news of Regulus' passing James was struggling to find reason.

At the funeral Sirius held for Regulus, everyone seemed to have felt his presence, or at least had some type of connection they could hold onto that would make him feel closer. Regulus had known he might die, since he suspected Dumbledore knew more than he was letting on, so he had left a letter in his bedside drawer of things people could have.

Remus had a golden quill and a French children's book Regulus brought with him when he came back to London, it was Regulus' comfort story. Barty got Regulus' record collection and Evan got his jewelry, Dorcas got a special silver pocket watch/mirror that used to hang on Regulus' clothes and Pandora got a an intricate purse Regulus would keep his photos in.

Sirius had their childhood locket, a picture of the two of them inside from the Potter Christmas whilst they wore their ugly Christmas sweaters and for the first time since Sirius had left, they were smiling together.

James got something as well, but unlike the others he didn't feel like Regulus was with him when he looked at it. When he walked down that strip of grass, carrying one side of the coffin, he still didn't feel Regulus' presence. When he visited the grave he felt like he was talking to thin air, at least when he took these walks through the forbidden he felt like he wasn't alone.

James got to a clearing in the forest, a year ago three dragons would've been kept here for the triwizard tournament but it was empty now, just random animals scurrying around. James sat on a log and stared at the forest, he was genuinely surprised nothing had tried eating him yet, maybe all the creatures were used to his presence because he visited so often, he was like another Hagrid to them.

James was about to leave when he heard the sound of scraping claws against rock, he went past the trees and looked down into a lower area where he saw the end of a black, scaled tail. James couldn't see past the trees at what was trying to escape the ravine but it didn't look like any creature he had seen before.

James took a notebook out of his pocket and documented what he could see and hear. The creature had a large, black, scaled tail and based on the shadow the sun was casting, it seemed to be much larger than any of the reptile-like creatures James had encountered before.

James looked down again to sketch the tail but when he looked, the tail was gone along with the shadow. James, against his better judgment, slowly climbed down the rocks. When James got to the ground he noticed large prints in the dirt with claws, the only creature James could think of was a dragon, but the dragons had all been taken back to their habitats and they certainly hadn't brought any of their young ones to the school grounds.

James went to move when suddenly he felt a gust of hot air behind him, he slowly turned and behind him sat a large black dragon. The dragon looked down at him with slit pupils, those eyes cats make when they're hunting. And those eyes, James' reality paused for a moment as he looked into them, they replicated a raging storm or the reflection of crashing waves against stone.

James stayed still, being careful not to move or scream as the creature studied him. The dragon was big, but not like the ones from the tri-wizard tournament, this one was smaller yet still seemed to pack as much power.
