(Narrator's POV)
"Why are we here? I hate places like this, Connie." Steven said as he and Connie walked into the lounge on the high end of town. The sound of swinging jazz music could be heard as if it was something out of a 40s flick.
"You think I want to be here? We have to do this in order to convince our familes that we're at least TRYING to take the whole heir/heiress thing seriously, Steven. Besides, this place seems nice enough." Connie replied as Steven sighed as the lounge host came up to the stage.
"Good evening everyone. Hope everyone's having a good time tonight. Now it's time for the dance. If you'll all gather around Brother Stotowski, he'll hit us with some of that South American style. The Conga to be exact, so make it mella', fella." He said as the bandleader began leading into some Conga music.
"Come on, Steven. Let's dance." Connie said as Steven smiled.
"Why can't I say no to you?" He asked as he took her hand and they headed towards the dance floor as the music played. The two clearly had been practicing before hand. True, Steven was light on his feet to begin with, but since he hated coming to places like this, his frustration could have possibly gotten the better of him without preparation.
Thankfully, unlike her fiancee, Connie was excited about coming here and since Steven loved her dearly, he decided to just go along with it, if just to keep his future wife happy.
And it's not like they weren't being noticed as many of the other people looked on at the two and marveled at how smooth they were on such a sophisticated dance floor.
"Wonder if we'll still be dancing like this after our first child?" Connie said with a smirk as Steven chuckled.
"We're not even married yet and you're already thinking about motherhood? Cut me some slack, Connie." He said as Connie giggled. She loved teasing Steven like that.
The two continued to dance smoothly and impress the other people on the dance floor as the two struck a pose as the music concluded, earning them applause from the crowd.
Afterwards, they got drinks and sat down as they watched others dance. What can you say? Sometimes it was fun to watch others try to follow your act and that's what the other more experienced couples seemed to be trying to do, not wanting to be outclassed by a pair of youngsters.
"Some of those couples are married. I can tell." Connie said as Steven chuckled.
"Woman's intuition, I assume?" He asked as Connie rolled her eyes and smiled.
"If by that you mean I can see the rings on their fingers, then yes. (Sighs) I wonder sometimes about our engagement, Steven. Does it feel natural to you? Or forced?" She asked as Steven sighed.
"I won't lie: It does feel forced. But you know what? I wouldn't want to be forced to marry anyone else. I love you, Connie Maheswaren." Steven said as he held Connie's hand in his.
"I love you too, Steven. And if anyone else was engaged to you? I'd probably have them killed." Connie replied as Steven looked a bit taken aback by such a comment.
"Why go to that extreme?" He asked with a chuckle.
"Because I love you and you are mine. You've always been there for me and....I really do want to spend the rest of my life with you if I can, Steven. The day I'm finally able to call you my husband....will be the happiest day for me." Connie said as Steven smiled at her.
"And it'll be the happiest day for me as well. Because I'll be able to call you my wife. But until that day comes, I'm happy just being with you, Connie." He said as the two shared a kiss as the music played throughout the lounge.
