Wei Wuxian woke the next morning and he was in pain. He hasn't been in this much pain since his golden core was removed. His nerves felt like they were on fire and tiny pins and needles poking at his skin. His stomach, where he was shot, felt like a pinching pain on his skin. He realized it was the stitches and his incisions were tender to the touch.

That pain however, was soothed by something warm as it gently rubbed against him, and a hand that roamed his body and wherever it touched, the pain went away for a moment. Wuxian realized he wasn't in that glass box anymore either. The room was bright but it was familiar. He felt warm breath brush against the skin of his neck. He slowly turned and saw that his fiance was lying right beside him. He looked asleep so Wuxian decided not to wake him. There was no telling how much he slept while Wuxian was missing.

Wei Wuxian began to cry. His actions yet again hurt others as he selfishly threw himself into the Wolves' den. He hurt Wangji again and again, and he realized it was no wonder Lan Xichen despised him. Lan Xichen is Wangji's older brother and all he wants is for his little brother to be happy. Wuxian let out a sob and it was all it took to wake Wangji up. In his sleep, he could already feel a sense of distress, and it wasn't his own.

Being bonded to Wuxian, he was able to feel everything Wuxian felt, emotions, physical pain, mental distress and anxieties, hear his thoughts when Wuxian allowed him. Wangji was starting to learn how to bypass those blocks that Wuxian put up to reach out to him. No matter the block he was able to push past it. Once the two marry, it will hard for either of them to hide anything, but Wangji didn't want to invade Wuxian's privacy if he didn't have to. It would be better to let Wuxian come to him but if he didn't Wangji would have to step up. He was trying to figure out now, what was causing Wuxian's distress.

"Wei Ying, what's wrong? Are you in pain?" Wangji asked. Wuxian shook his head as he was unable to speak properly due the crying. Wangji sat up carefully and took Wuxian's hand, "Please try to breathe, I am here. I am not going anywhere."

Wuxian tried to speak, "I-I am s-sor-ry I k-keep hurting y-you," Wuxian cried harder, "I-I am s-so selfish l-like your br-brother said."

"No you are not, I understand why you did what you did. You are used to doing things on your own to protect those you care about. I wish you would have talked to me. No matter what kind of stress I am in, please talk to me. We are partners, together and always...forever, Wei Ying," Wangji told him.

Wuxian managed to calm his breathing for a moment to speak again, "I now know why your brother hates me...my actions keep hurting you. He told me that it would be nice to do whatever we wanted but he said I shouldn't be so self-centered to think my actions don't affect others."

Lan Wangji was livid, "When did he say this?"

"It doesn't matter. He didn't know of my core being gone. He was worried about you. He was just being a big brother protecting his Didi," Wuxian explained.

"It is still not an excuse for his words," Wangji said, "You are not selfish or self-centered. You are reckless, to be honest. I of all people, know why you do the things you do. You live up to the standards of a cultivator by putting people first before yourself and family. And if it involves family, you fight twice as hard."

Wuxian just shook his head, "I don't know how to forgive myself. You must have been miserable," Wuxian told him.

"I was lost without you. Since I almost lost you once, it is a fear of mine to lose you again. Seeing you hurt and in pain, seeing you suffer, and seeing you disappear before my eyes, is painful. It's selfish of me, but I cannot function properly when you are not with me," Wangji told him, "I am addicted to you, and I realized that it may make you feel caged and it is not my intention, but it is me who is chained to you, and I do not wish for that to be broken."

Wuxian stared at him in awe. Lan Wangji loved him so deeply that he just wants to be with him every second of every day. If Wuxian could choose, he would want the same, "It seems we are chained to each other. You want to protect me just as much as I want to protect you," Wuxian said, "what do we do?"

"We work together from now on, no more secrets. If we encounter a problem, we discuss options on how to resolve it. No more doing things on your own," Wangji said, "It's how a relationship works. Communication, honesty, and trust."

Wuxian nodded and sucked in a some air through his teeth, "Um..can we talk more about this later...I am in a bit of pain."

"Will you allow me to go get Yibo?" Wangji questioned.

"Why?" Wuxian asked, "My pain reliever is sitting next to me...did you forget you can heal me?"

Wangji blinked a couple times before leaning down and gently kissed the man on his lips. Wangji placed his hand on Wuxian's cheek and he started to pour his spiritual energy into Wuxian through the kiss. Wuxian immediately began to feel much better. He was able to lift his arms properly and wrap them around Wangji's neck. Wangji knew that soon, Wuxian would be feeling well enough to do more than just kissing, and the two needed it. It was long overdue. Wangji pulled away for a moment and lifted Wuxian off the medical bed.

"I am taking you up to our room for more privacy," Wangji said and teleported just upstairs to their bedroom as they didn't want to be seen. Wangji locked the door and placed privacy talismans to the walls to keep sound from traveling. That was when the two got comfortable in bed and loved each other again and again. Not caring how long they were going. They just wanted to be together.
