I pushed around the eggs on my plate as Daphne, Blaise, Malfoy, Theodore, and Pansy all chatted around me. We sat in the middle of the Slytherin table, Daphne on my right, Blaise beside her, and Malfoy directly across to me, sat next to Theodore and Pansy, who were on Nott's other side. Crabbe and Goyle had yet to show up; Malfoy had announced without an ounce of guilt that he'd left them to sleep in.
Snape was making his way down the table, handing out class schedules to students as he went. As he approached the sixth years, they realized the distribution process was different this year, and more complicated; he now had to check if they had qualified for the class they'd requested, due to their N.E.W.T.'s.
He started with Blaise, who had been cleared to take every class he'd wanted to; the core classes, as well as Ancient Runes. Theodore was taking Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, Transfiguration, and Charms; he had dropped Herbology, Astronomy, and Care for Magical Creatures.
Daphne and Pansy were not taking as many classes as the two boys were, not having earned high enough scores on some of their N.E.W.T.'s to be eligible for certain classes. They were certainly not upset. That offered more free time and less homework and studying for them.
"Miss Knight." Snape acknowledges, looking down at his paper. "You've decided to drop Herbology, Care for Magical Creatures, and History of Magic, I see?"
"Yes, Professor." I murmur, glancing up at the man who peered down at me knowingly.
"Hm, no surprise you've decided to get rid of your weakest classes." He says, cruel amusement on his features. I feel heat rise to my face and I glare at the former Potions professor. "Here you go."
I take the schedule from him, scowling, and bring it down for me to read. I have Divination first, Defense Against the Dark Arts second, a free period third, and Potions fourth today. The next day, I had Transfigurations, Charms, and, later that night, Astronomy.
I look up at Malfoy to see him studying his own schedule approvingly, before looking up at me and raising his eyebrows. He gestures towards the schedule in my own hand, and I silently offer it to him as he compares it to his own.
"Hm, seems you'll be inescapable, Knight." He says, handing me back the paper as he smirks with amusement. "Every class together. How lucky."
My breath hitched in my throat. Every class together?
"You're lying." I immediately say, snatching his schedule from his hand and scanning it to see that he was, in fact, not lying.
"I'm awfully confused." Daphne speaks from her spot next to me, brows furrowed as her eyes dart between me and Malfoy, perplexed. "Why do you make this sound like such a bad thing?"
I tense up, suddenly remembering I'm supposed to be dating Malfoy, and I lock eyes with him, his silver gaze seeming to find this whole ordeal hilarious.
"They hate each other." Theodore says simply, dropping a couple of blueberries into his mouth. He speaks while he chews. "Must add to the sex."
I twist my face up in disgust, and Malfoy merely scoffs. I push my plate away from me. "Please, shut up, Theodore."
"Always so proper." Theodore says then, chuckling. "Theo is fine, dear."
Malfoy is scowling, then, glaring at Theodore's- or, Theo's- use of a pet name, and I roll my eyes as Pansy sends a dirty, dark look my way. Theo laughs it off, which only seems to tick Malfoy off further, but before I could question it, he turns to me.
"It's almost time for first period." He says, and he stands as he dusts off his hands from the crumbs of his toast, before gesturing with his head for me to follow him. I want to slap him for his non-verbal demands, but I try to remain calm and not let my anger overwhelm me as I wave goodbye to the group and trail after him.
