Mending Charms are only effective if the user casts one properly; less experienced casters, however, will find much more difficulty in repairing objects with this charm.

A Mending Charm is solely meant to be used on inanimate objects. Using one on living beings is incredibly dangerous and the results can include things such as scarring or injuries. The use of them on living beings is strictly prohibited.

While Mending Charms are acceptable to use on most inanimate things, objects that contain powerful or complex magic of any sort make it much more difficult to be repaired by this charm— and it may even be impossible to do so.

I exhale through my nose in frustration, shutting the fifth book I've picked up and scanned through in the last four hours. Every single one contained the same information, and lacked the same information, as well.

It was a Saturday, and October would be over in a couple of days. The end of term was approaching, and me and Malfoy had still made scarily low progress in the months we've had so far. I've been wasting away my weekends just to come short every single time; there was a pathetically low amount of knowledge on anything involving Vanishing Cabinets.

I dug my nails into my scalp, tugging at the roots of my hair as I try to suppress my aggravation. How have I found absolutely nothing? The amount of research I've been doing has been unbearable, and I haven't even benefited from any of it.

Heaving a sigh, I get up and replace the book to where I got it from, searching the aisles for any other book on charms that could repair the Cabinet, or anything about the Cabinet in general. However, all of the ones I notice have something to do with these topics are books I've already searched.

Frustrated, I realise that I'll have to drop by Snape's office soon and request a permission slip into the Restricted Section.

Great, I think grimly, then he'll be able to scold me for ignoring his demands to come to his office. Exactly what I need.

As I begin to walk back to the small table I've been occupying in the very back corner of the library, I hear a voice from behind me that has me stopping in my tracks.

"Lila." the voice calls out, and I turn, spotting Harry a little bit away from me. He approaches me, a small, careful smile on his face. I force a tight-lipped one in return. "How have you been?"

"Fine." I reply curtly, inhaling impatiently. "Is something the matter?"

"Oh, no, it's just— well..." Harry trails off, scratching the back of his neck as he offers a sheepish smile. "I need to talk to you— I've been meaning to talk to you for a while, actually. Can we sit?"

"Oh, um... yeah." I say awkwardly, nodding, and I guide him over to my table. Discreetly, I put away the books I had out on dark magic and shove them into my bag, watching as he plays with his fingers on top of the table. I sit straighter in my seat and give him a questioning look. "What do you need to talk to me about?"

He looks over his shoulder and scans the library, before pulling out his wand and muttering, "Muffliato."

I furrow my brows at the unfamiliar spell, giving him a questioning look. "What was that spell?"

He shrugs. "It's a Silencing Charm. It muffles the sounds of our voices to anyone trying to eavesdrop or listen in."

I narrow my eyes at him, suspiciously. "I've never heard of that spell, nor have I seen it being used anywhere."

He avoids my eyes, looking down at his hands on the table instead. "I just found it in some book, and thought it might be useful."

"Hm." I hum, skeptical. "I'll try it sometime. But what is so important that you need to keep the conversation so private?"
