We leaned our backs onto a free spot on the wall and just waited like pigs for the butcher.
The other maids were equally as silent as we were because all of us were just taking in what lay ahead of us.

Suddenly the dark hallway that didn't have any windows felt like a great metaphor for my life.

The anticipation grew while waiting. Every time someone came out of the office I was scared to hear my name.

Daisy was called in before me. I sent her a smile as she wobbled through the door.
As I stood there by myself I wished I had already been called in. I just wanted to get this over with.
I bet the first person had already returned to the maid's quarters about twenty minutes ago.

Everyone had been curious to hear what had happened inside of the office so when the guy returned outside he was bombed with questions.
Apparently he had just gotten instructions on which rooms he was going to tend to and to go back to the quarters for now.

Aside from that nothing had happened. Still, the guy had hastily returned to the quarters. Probably enjoying his last hours of freedom and recovering from the bitter old lady while I was wasting my time here.

Finally Daisy came back outside. She didn't look too bad so I guessed there was hope for me as well.
"How did it go?" I asked her after she sent someone else in.
"Fine I guess. I only have to look after four rooms so that's good" she replied. I was glad to hear that she hadn't been traumatized inside of this office.

"That's great, Daze. Do you know whose rooms they are?" I asked.
"I think some lower ranked officials. Maybe professors. I didn't recognize the names so I'm going to have to figure out tomorrow" she said and despite the tiredness in her voice I could still decipher her excitement.

"Should I return first or do you still need me?" she asked timidly.
"No that's totally fine. Please return" I said while shoeing her away. It was clear that she was tired, seeing her slumped posture. I didn't want to burden her by keeping her here.

She gave me a brief hug before walking away.
"You're the best, see you!" she yelled. I was all alone now, feeling sorry for myself because I didn't know what to do with myself. Not just now, but in general. I didn't know if my life was falling apart or I was beginning a new and better life. If I could only make this work somehow...

There were only four people left and I was beginning to wonder if I'd be the last.
Luckily I was finally called in by some random guy.

I pushed myself off the wall and straightened my shoulders. Two could play this game. I was determined that I wouldn't let myself get embarrassed by lady Thatcher.
I walked inside the small room with walls that weren't even plastered. Cozy.
Apparently her job wasn't that important after all.

I sat down on a wooden chair that stood in front of her desk.
The whole scenario felt like an interrogation, starting from the cold temperature of the room to its prison like appearance.
