We pull away at the same time for breath.
Lane is still holding me in position, preventing my weak legs to push me into drowning. His grip is still tight and my skin is still tingling from the contact.
Shamefully, my core is heated by the proximity to the evident bulge in his swim shorts. My arms are still around his neck and our gazes don't dare to look away from each other.
I swallow, audibly, the realisation of what just happened sinking in. The worst part is that I can't even seem freaked out because we still have pairs of eyes on us.
Therefore, I force a smile on my mouth, fake for anyone who's close enough. I try to find some idea of what to do next in Xander's eyes but all I'm greeted with is his dilated pupils.
His breath is warm on my skin, his skin golden with the sun hitting. Even his hair has gained a slightly different shade. Lighter. Shinier.
He rests his head in mine, "Fucking hell."
I almost betray myself by snorting, cause honestly? Same. The only thing more infuriating than not wanting someone that'd be perfect for you, is wanting the one you have reasons not to.
"Damn, even I almost believed that"
Rowan laughs, patting his best friend's shoulder as we step out of the water. I avoid the burning stares and dry myself with the towel as I contemplate everything.
It shouldn't have happened, a kiss is never just a kiss. At least not when it's between two people who before any of this barely talked to each other. Of course, that was more because of my dislike for the guy, but still. We're passing over a lot of steps.
Then again, it's my fault for agreeing to this fake dating agreement. Fucking hell what was I thinking. That doing it with Alexander Lane would work? Yeah, right.
The worst part is that I can't even say it was bad. No, the guy had to be one goddamn good kisser. More than that, he knew exactly what he was doing by the way he was holding by body. Every touch set me on fire.
"You good, Miks?" Dex nudges my arm.
My shoulders drop, "Yeah, just tired."
"I wouldn't give it too much thought" he advises, barely sparing a glance at me, too busy with whoever he's texting.
"What?" this kid can't be a mind reader, right?
"Overthinking about it won't do you any good, besides people say getting it over with might help with all the fighting and all" he casually says.
"Getting 'it' over with?!" I frown.
"You know, fuck it out of your systems" Dex shrugs.
"That would only make it worse, make things get messy and confusing" I whisper-shout, careful so no one else hears me. Thank god they're busy taking everything back to the cars.
The kid eyes me, "You sure? Cause it seems to be that you're the only one overthinking about it. Unless it erupted some kind of feelin-"
