Ch.12

Newts POV

"It's Gallys secret." I said "yeah well he's still an asshole." I could see the greenie staring at McKenna and Gally.

"Trust me. The maze is a dangerous place." I took a sip of my drink.

"We're trapped here... aren't we."
"For the moment."  I said looking at the greenie.

"But... see those guys and girl over there the only girl we have...." I said "by the fire." The greenie looked mainly staring at the girl.

I rolled my eyes at that. "Those are runners. That guy in the middle that's Minho. He's the keeper of the runners." McKenna was taking a sip of the drink Gally made it seemed.

"Every morning those doors open they run the maze map it. Memorize to try to find a way out." I said.

"How long have they been looking? Especially the girl." He said "three years... we've all been here... Minho, McKenna, Alby, Gally... and me." I said.

The greenie looked shock.

"And they haven't found anything??" The boy questioned.

"It's a lot easier said then done." I chuckled.
If only he knew my story I thought.

"McKenna broke her foot in the maze." I said quietly.

The boy looked shock and looked back at her "how?" He questioned.

"She was being chased." Is all I said.

"Listen!" I mentioned pointing to the sky you could hear the walls changing.

"Hear that? That's the maze changing it changes every night." I said calmly.

The greenie looked in distance "how is that even possible?" He didn't seem to want to believe yet we were here and this is our new lives.

"You can ask the people who put us in here if you ever meet them bastards." I joked.

Especially McKenna I felt bad for her she's the only girl in the maze with a bunch of teenage and older boys.

"Listen the truth is.... The runners are the only ones that really know what's out there. Mostly McKenna and Minho they were the first two runners to exist." I said.

"There the strongest the fastest of us all and it's a good thing too because if they don't make it back before the doors close then they're stuck out there for the night. And no one's ever survived a night out in the maze."

"What happens to them?" The boy asks.

"We call them grievers. Of course no one's ever seen one and lived to tell... everyone besides... Nevermind." I said shuddering about the thought when McKenna was chased.

The boy looks at me "McKenna was chased... wasn't she..." he questioned looking down.

"That's how she got her foot?" He asked.

I nodded "but they're out there."

"Right well... that's enough questions for one night come on! You're supposed to be the guest of honor!" I said happily.

"Oh no-" "OH! No no come on! I'll even introduce you to McKenna because you stare at her like you know her" I chuckled rolling eyes.

The boy sighed getting up and we went over to the runners "Hey McKenna and Minho this is the greenie." "Hi! Welcome to the glade" she said smiling.

"Hi." The boy said shyly.

Gallys POV

I looked over after shoving a guy down seeing Newt and the new greenie talk to McKenna making me sneer.

"Now we got the builders quick with their hands but they're not the best upstairs " I rolled my eyes at Newts comment.

I went over to McKenna for a split second kissing her forehead "hey!" She said "hey!" I replied.

"You're doing great!" McKenna said chuckling "I always am" I laughed walking back. I was wrestling with another guy and I shoved him into the greenie smirking.

McKenna immediately got up heading over Minho slowly following behind. This is my chance to prove to her I can fight anyone.

The boy almost fell turning towards us. "What do you say greenie?" I questioned smirking "want to see what you're made of?" I asked.

"Greenie. Greenie GREENIE GREENIE!" All the boys were chanting making me pumped up more specially since McKenna was watching.

"Greenie! Greenie!"

"Come on!" The boys cheered the greenie on.

"GREENIE, GREENIE, GREEENIE!"

"GREENIE, GREENIE , GREENIE!"

The boys clapped cheering "yeah!" Chuck yelled.

I rolled my sleeves up "alright. The rules are simple greenie. I try pushing you out of the circle And try to last more than five seconds."
I sadly cockily.

"Ready?" I questioned.

The boys laughed at my comment including McKenna making me smile her way.
