Ch.25

Gally and Newt looked at each other we all ran outside the box was coming up. How is that possible?!! Thomas already came up it's usually another month before it does!

"The box is coming back up!"
"It shouldn't be!"

I ran in between Gally and Newt and stopped when they were opening it Gally and Newt on either side of me.

Gally and I opened the cage it revealed a boy.... Inside....

Another boy?
I questioned.

He looked familiar I stared at him confused.

"McKenna what do you see?!" A boy shouted.

"It's a boy" I said.

He was passed out. I jumped down taking the note from him. "He's the last one ever?" I said surprised "what the hell does that mean?" I asked looking at the others.

Gally, Newt, Thomas and the rest of the gladers stared down at us in shock we had another person come up this early.

"I think he's dead" I said.

He suddenly gasped awake I backed up quickly as did everyone else "McKenna" he called out before passing out.

Everyone stared at me I looked back confused.

"Do you still think I'm overreacting?" Gally asked staring dead at me.

I looked at the boy. I didn't know who he was.

But why does everything lead to me?

The boy was now in the med hut and we walked in there Newt, Thomas and Minho following me.

Gally was avoiding me. I sighed stopping in front of the greenie.

"Jeff." Newt called.

"What's going on?" Newt asked.

"What's the matter with him? Why won't he wake up?" I asked.

"Hey man, I got my job the same way you did" Jeff said.

I stared at him. I felt Newts eyes on me with a hint of jealousy as well as Thomas.

"Do you recognize him?" Newt asks.

"N-no." I stated looking back.
I was completely confused on what happened "really? Because he seems to recognize you." Newt said looking at me with anger and jealousy.

"Alright don't put this on me! Just because some person comes up doesn't mean I know them! Okay?!" I said snapping at Newt.

I walked away with anger filling inside me.
Newt came after me. "McKenna wait!" "What Newt? Are you here to tell me how much this is all my fault like Gally? Because if so. I already know it is." I said.

Newt stared at me shocked shaking his head "I wasn't going to say that it's not your fault. It's just..." "just what Newt?" I asked.

"We won't have the box coming back up. It's all because of me" I said about to walk away but Gally came over.
"Where are you going?" Newt asked me.

"Back into the maze" I knew this caught Minhos attention because he came over stopping me.

"Hey hey McKenna wait!" Minho said.
I stopped. "What's this with you? A death wish?" He asked.

"I have to prove myself. Gally already hates me" I whispered looking at Gally.

"Why does it matter what he thinks? He's a dick!" Minho said.

"But seriously you just got out you want back in?" Minho asked me. "I'll join" Thomas said.

"Newt said that no one has ever seen a Griever and now and lived to tell about it right?" Thomas added.

"Now we have one! You're telling me you're not at all even a little bit curious"

"Not really no" Minho shook his head at us.

Thomas went forward but Minho stopped him.

Newt and Gally were watching us "So what's the plan?" Minho asked.

"You're gonna go out and dissect that thing all by yourselves?" Minho asked us.

"That's the plan unless you want to help?" I asked.

Minho looked at me for a moment "have other runners left yet?" Thomas asked.

"The other runners quit this morning" I looked seeing Gally talking a few out of it.

"After Alby got stung, they're not in a hurry to get back out there" Minho mentioned.

Minho looked at us "why are you? Besides Gally." Minho questioned me.

"I think it's time we find out what we're really up against" Thomas spoke for me.

"Alright" Minho finally agreed.

"We're not going back out there alone" Minho said finally.

I nodded "fine by me."

"Meet me in the woods half an hour" Minho looked at us before leaving.

"Are you and Gally still together?" Thomas questioned.

I looked at him then at Gally who stared at us "I don't know..." I said Thomas suddenly held my hand which I took back squeezing it.
