Ch.36

I stayed close to Newt holding his hand Thomas on the other side of me as the other door opened revealing lights.

I pushed the door more open and looked at Thomas before going in first.

The boys soon followed.

Newt squeezed my hand so I squeezed it back.

We finally made it!! I couldn't believe it!!! But if only.... I couldn't think of that right now....
We survived!! Right????

Where is everyone? I thought.

The lights made a noise as each light turned on the long hallway "Creepy." I said.

I stayed close to Newt as we all walked forward trying to find our way out.

There was a green light next to a door that said....

EXIT.

"Seriously?" Frypan asks.

I looked at them before Thomas opened the door slowly.

There was a non stop beeping noise when we went in everything was trash. Sparks going everywhere.

Bodies everywhere that made me want to get sick.

Thomas walked more in us following slowly behind "What is this place?" I asked whispering.

Newt kept pulling me along not trying to get me to see some things he didn't seem to clearly want me to see.

I moved closer to him as if I was afraid for him to leave.

"What happened here?" Frypan asks.

Minho moved a gun away which I was thankful for that.

We walked in a room that looked really scientific if that's how to describe it.

I would say it would have been cool to see for something else this if we weren't trapped by them.

I looked at the computers seeing cameras and it looked to be the maze Newt joined me as did Travis.

"So they were watching us." Newt mentioned.

"This whole time...."

I heard a voice speaking and looked over at the video.
The women......
She looked familiar.

"Hello"
"My name is Dr.Ava Page."
"I'm director of Operarions of the World Catastrophe Killzone Department."

"If you're watching this, that means you have successfully completed The Maze Trials."

"I wish I could be there in person to congratulate you..... but circumstances seem to have prevented it."

Thomas held my hand as I held it back watching.

"I'm sure by now you must all be very confused....angry...." I looked at Newt who was on the other side of me smiling sadly at him.

"Freighted. I can only assure you, that everything that's happened to you...everything we've done to you...it was all done for a reason. You won't remember. But the Sun has scorched our world. Billions of lives lost to fire..... famine." I held both Thomas and Newts hand squeezing both while listening.

"Suffering...on a global scale....the fallout was unimaginable. What came after was worse."

"We'd called it The Flare."

"A deadly Virus that attacks the brain. It is violent unpredictable, incurable. Or so we thought. In time a new generation emerged that could survive the virus. Suddenly there was a reason, to hope for a cure. But finding it would not be easy. The young would have to be tested. Even sacrificed inside harsh environments when their brain activity could be studied all in an effort to understand.... What makes them different. What makes you different. You may not realize it....but you're very important. Unfortunately, your trials have only just begun. As you will no doubt soon discover.  Not everyone agrees with our methods. I looked away from the gunshot. I looked at her body going forward.

We turned when the door opened revealing another passageway. I held Newts hand tightly
This was it.
This is the end.
"Is it over?" Chuck asks.
"She said we were important?" Newt says looking at me.

"What are we supposed to do now?" Newt asks.
"I don't know. Let's get out of here." Thomas suggests.

I went to step forward "NO." A voice I heard all too familiar....
It......it....can't be....

I turned around as fast as flash when I seen the person I knew and loved "Gally!" I said happily but my face changed seeing he didn't look like himself....

No......
He can't....
Newt gripped my hand tightly securing me as Gally stared deadly at me.

I knew he wasn't right in his mind I knew why.

"McKenna don't! He's been stung!" Travis said.

He didn't look like himself.. I was scared. This wasn't Gally. He looked ill..

"We can't leave" he shook his head he had a gun in his hand making me look at him freighted "Gally you're okay! We're going to be okay!" I said encouraging him letting go of Newts hand to go forward.

"We did it Gally we're out!" Thomas said moving forward next to me.

"We're free" I said "please Gally let's move on be happy" I said I wanted him to listen I could tell he was fighting with himself by his facial expressions.

"Free?" He questions me.
"You think we're free out there?" Gally asks me.

"No..." he shook his head "why didn't you stay with me?" He asks me "I chased after you... I didn't want you to leave me alone." He whimpered.

"But Gally were here now...we're going to be okay" I said trying to reason with him.
"No there's no escape from this place." Gally aimed his gun at me.

Thomas immediately put me behind him "Gally listen to me you're not thinking straight. You're not. Now we can help you! Listen to McKenna. Just put down the gun" he said.

"Please Gally" I whimpered.

"I belong to the maze!" Gally says pointing the gun at Thomas.

"Please Gally!" I yelled.
He shook his head  "we all do!" Gally shot the gun "GALLY NO!" I screamed.

Minho threw a spear at him "GALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY"
