Ch.23

"We're not going to make it" I heard Thomas say he looked at me with sad eyes.

I knew we weren't. I looked at Newt tears spilling, "I'm sorry" I said looking at him. He looked at me, "it's not your fault." He said. "It is I didn't protect you like you protected me." I said.

He looked at me smiling while leaning his head back, "You did the best you could" he grunted.

I looked at Gally. "You'll have everyone Gally and Thomas that's all you need." "Don't say that I need you too!" I yelled. I was getting frustrated. Minho looked at us, "hey you'll make it you have to!" Minho encouraged.
"We're making it" I said looking at him.

I picked Newt up Thomas and I carried him Gally lead the way with Minho having their guns out.

"Alright Newt we're almost there!" Gally calls out.

"Just leave me" Newt said "NO!" I yelled at him.

I felt tears rolling down my face, I was determined to save him. A car went rolling across the road luckily didn't hit us.

Gally bent down taking cover I tried covering Newt, "back, back, back" Gally ordered

People were shouting and rioting, I looked up seeing the berg.

"Okay. That's them" Gally said. I touched Newts face gently "hey look at me Newt stay focused!" I yelled.

"We gotta go!" I said trying to pick him up but he felt heavier. He looked worse than before, he had green stuff thatwas coming out of his mouth his eyes were getting darker. His veins were popping out of his face.

"No you go out without me please" "No!" I shouted trying to pick him up.

He started coughing up the green stuff, "Gally, Thomas take care of her please-" "we're not leaving you" I reminded.

Newt started gasping, "Newt" I said touching him gently.

"You gotta run ahead grab the serum, get back to us as soon as you can." Thomas said.

I looked at him then at Newt, "McKenna go!" Thomas ordered.
"He's right. I can cover." Gally spoke up "I don't want to leave Newt please" I begged.

Thomas looked at me, "McKenna you have to go." "He will be okay" Gally encouraged. Newt grabbed my arm before leaving "I love you. Remember that." He said staring at me. "I love you too Newt." I said "remember you promised!" I said to him. Newt pulled me into him kissing me passionately I kissed him back, before letting go I didn't care that he looked sick. At least..... no. I can't think that way. Minho pulled me away "go get out of here!" Newt yelled.

Gally took me with Minho and ran. I looked at Newt one last time, "go McKenna go!" Thomas yelled I ran with the others.

I ran as fast as I could Gally covering me. We went different directions. I prayed that Newt would be okay.

I kept running as fast as I could as if I was in the maze.

An explosion happened near me making me fall down "MCKENNA!" Gally yelled.

Minho helped me up, "come on!" Minho encourage me to keep running.

I ran faster trying to keep up.

Everything felt like a fever dream like none of this was real.

I swear I felt a bullet went by me as I ran.

Gally kept encouraging me to keep going.

I was now crying as I ran, but I couldn't give up. 
I couldn't let Newt down. "McKenna" I heard on the speaker "can you hear me? I need you to listen to me. I know you have no reason to trust me. But I need you and Thomas to come back." I looked at Gally as I kept running.
"Thomas, you and McKenna can save Newt, there's still time for him" I felt chills go down my spine as I pushed my feat harder.

I was gasping for breath as I ran, "there's a reason McKenna isn't sick anymore. It's your blood. Do you understand? McKenna isn't sick because you cured her" Gally looked at me confused.
I forgot I didn't tell him....

I need to go faster I didn't know where I was going but I followed Gally we need the serum.

"She doesn't have to be the only one. All you have to do is come back to me and this will all finally be over." Travis spoke. "Please just come back to me. I know you know you'll do the right-" the speaker was cut off.

I arrived at the berg seeing Brenda and the others "McKenna !" Brenda threw it to me.

"Come on!" I caught while yelling I started running again.
