You, Her, and Me

Concept poem time!

You love her, that's easy enough to see.
And perhaps you deserve her far more than me.
You've earned her love, her trust, the ability to stay by her side.
And I've lost it all without ever knowing that it was mine.
She gave me her heart.
And without realizing it, I tore it apart.
She made me her muse.
But I let her love burn out like a fuse.

But you were different.
That truth makes even my sweetest poems sound belligerent.
As dark to light,
As day to night.
You were worthy,
And the fact that I was not stared at me firmly.
She became a star in the sky,
As I was replaced in her eye.

She realized you loved her
Before I realized she loved me first.
She wrote it down in a song,
About how she wanted to move on.
I didn't know just how much that would hurt.
She came to understand that she deserved more, and left me in the dirt.
I can't be upset.
I'm not allowed to be, but I do feel regret.

I regret how I didn't know. And in my obliviousness, I let her go.
I regret how I was content in staying in the dark.
I didn't see the flame because I didn't see the spark.
I regret how I let the fire burn out.
It became an ember because I let her down.
I regret never seeing it all.
She found comfort in you and started to fall.

I knew how you felt for her.
With you, she realized her worth.
I knew that because it was easy to see.
But I didn't know that she could ever possibly love me.
I was a fool,
A blind idiot, it's true.
All I can do is hope now.
That it's not too late to share the hearts we never found.
