In the office, Olivia opened the food container, and the contents inside were still steaming hot.
"Try it. I made it myself." Olivia's eyes sparkled.
Damien's heart couldn't help but speed up, but when he saw the mango pastries and smelled the mango aroma, it was as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over his head!
He raised his eyes and asked word by word, "Liv, do you really want me to eat it?"
Olivia didn't notice anything amiss and just nodded. "Mmm, eat a little. You performed surgery for three hours. You need to replenish your energy."
Damien lowered his gaze, the corners of his lips curling into a self-mocking smile. He didn't say anything and picked up the fork.
Every dish was delicious, but there was one ingredient that was like a deadly poison to him.
Damien finished the last piece of mango pastry. "Let's go home."
Orion drove, and in the back seat, small patches of red began to spread from Damien's neck.
In the dark night, no one noticed.
When they arrived at the villa entrance, Damien's voice was steady. "Orion, guard the villa entrance. No one is allowed in or out!"
With that, he took Olivia's hand and walked inside.
Olivia felt that Damien's hand temperature seemed a bit high.
She was puzzled, but before she could ask, Damien had already taken her to the basement.
"Dami, what are you—" Olivia sensed something was wrong and couldn't help but ask.
The basement lights suddenly turned on, and the moment Olivia saw Damien clearly, she couldn't help but exclaim, "What happened to your face..."
Rashes had appeared on Damien's neck, seemingly crawling up from beneath his shirt collar, almost spreading to his face.
His thin lips were also slightly swollen, his eyes were bloodshot, and the hand holding Olivia's was also red all over.
"Be good, Liv. You've always wanted me to die, right? I'm giving you a chance." Damien looked at Olivia, the corners of his lips even curling into a cruel and resolute smile.
"If I can't hold on today, you'll be free."
"If I don't die, you'll obediently stay with me for a lifetime, and I won't give you another chance to kill me!"
Olivia's heart trembled.
She knew now that Damien was having an allergic reaction.
He must be allergic to mangoes, so when he saw the food container open earlier, his expression had that subtle change.
"It's not like that. I didn't know you were allergic to mangoes!" Olivia hurriedly reached for her phone. "I'll call an ambulance right away!"
The smile at the corners of Damien's lips widened. With his bloodshot eyes, coupled with the red on his face, he didn't look ugly but had a kind of eerie beauty.
He coldly said, "This basement blocks all signals. You can't make a call."
Olivia realized it too. She anxiously rushed to the door.
But the man's voice came from behind. "The basement door is locked from the outside. You don't have the key to open it. But if we both don't come out tomorrow, Orion will come looking and set you free."
Olivia was so anxious that she kicked the door hard, but it wouldn't budge.
There was no one in the villa now. Orion was at the villa entrance, so even if she shouted her throat raw, he wouldn't hear the sound from the basement.
Olivia returned and tightly grasped Damien's hand, both angry and anxious.
"Damien Thorn, I said I don't want you to die! Everything you said is your own imagination! I really don't like Evan Nolan anymore. I only want to be with you! Listen to me. Open the door now. Let's call a doctor, okay?"
But Damien just gazed at her, his trembling fingers falling on Olivia's face, tracing her lips.
"Be good, baby girl. Don't talk. I don't believe a single word you say."
