Lily Carlson paused for a few seconds before suddenly stomping her foot in frustration.
"What do you mean I played pranks on you when we were kids? We used to be so close! We loved wearing matching outfits, had the same hairstyles, and always shared our favourite treats with each other! Up until we were eighteen, we were inseparable!"
Olivia listened to these words, which contradicted her own memories so sharply, and felt a cold shiver run through her.
She hugged her arms tightly around herself. "So it's true..."
Until they were eighteen... That meant her uncle's family, seeing that she couldn't be brainwashed or turned against Lily, resorted to forcibly altering her memories.
"Is there more?" Olivia asked urgently. "About me and Evan Nolan, and... me and Damien Thorn?"
Lily's face was still puffed up with anger. Now she understood why her sister had changed so suddenly two years ago.
It wasn't Olivia who had changed; Olivia had been hurt!
She hadn't noticed her sister's distress and had misunderstood her instead!
The past two years needed to be avenged against those despicable people!
"You did know Evan Nolan from a young age, but it wasn't anything special. It was because our family and the Nolans were prominent families in the city, so we attended the same parties and weddings. Naturally, you met him."
"Evan was the illegitimate son of the Nolan family head, a real pushover, always getting bullied. You knew each other but didn't have much interaction before secondary school."
"We went to the same school, but he was three years ahead of you in high school. There were a few encounters, but when you were sixteen, you told me someone was helping you from the shadows, though you didn't know who. By the time you were eighteen, you were with Evan."
"By then, our relationship had already started to deteriorate, but we still talked occasionally. I remember asking why you liked Evan, and you said it was because you discovered he was the one secretly helping you."
Olivia remembered that indeed someone had been helping her in secret.
Back then, her parents had disappeared, likely dead from an accident. She was devastated but didn't want to show it in front of Lily.
Sometimes, she would sneak to the school rooftop to cry. Once, when she tried to leave, she found the door to the rooftop locked.
She was terrified, shouting for help but getting no response.
Night fell, it began to rain, and the school had a power cut, leaving everything in darkness.
As she huddled in a corner, she heard the rooftop door being opened.
Her fear intensified.
But then a slightly hoarse male voice said, "Don't be afraid."
A jacket was draped over her head, and she was carried through the rain.
When light returned, she was placed under the school security office's eaves. The storm raged outside, but her rescuer had vanished.
Her uncle's driver arrived, holding an umbrella. She asked if he had seen anyone, but he said no.
Similar incidents happened many times.
Her wallet was stolen at the mall but was quickly returned by a staff member.
She forgot her umbrella at a piano competition, only for one to be suddenly handed to her.
When she and Lily were followed by a drunk while shopping, they heard the man cry out in pain, as if he had been hit.
There were countless such moments.
From when she was fourteen to eighteen, whenever she needed it most, her hero appeared, guiding her through the darkness!
