When Olivia heard this, her heart skipped a beat, "What's wrong with his body?"
She still remembered that in her previous life, Damien would often disappear for long periods, and now she realized he must have been going for treatment.
Could it be that besides taking that packet of drugs, Damien had other issues?
However, Martin did not directly answer Olivia's question, but instead said,
"Miss Carlson, Mr. Thorn has actually faced even bigger ordeals than today's in the past, but he's pulled through."
Olivia looked gloomy, "It's because of me that he got implicated."
"No," Martin shook his head.
"You saw how powerful he was today, not like a normal human, right? That's because he injected himself with a drug developed by the Thorn Group."
"This drug can temporarily enhance one's physical abilities. While Mr. Thorn is indeed skilled, if there were too many people attacking him, he would still find it difficult to fend them all off with just his fists. So over the years, he's used it more than once."
"Since it's a drug with such formidable effects, the side effects are naturally quite severe too. Plus, Mr. Thorn was abandoned at birth and grew up in the wild, so he also got issues from his childhood years."
At this point, Martin's expression turned somewhat grave.
"I know Miss Carlson may find him rather frightening, but please be good to him, considering he may not have many years left."
Olivia's breathing hitched, a chill rising from her feet. She asked, "What do you mean not many years left? Both the Thorn and Nolan families are in pharmaceuticals research, is there really no drug that can counteract the harmful side effects?"
Martin shook his head, "Currently no, but we're always trying our best."
Olivia pondered, then asked, "Then what are the side effects?"
She needed to properly understand Damien's condition.
At first Martin answered smoothly, mentioning possible symptoms like headaches and unexplained fainting spells. But then he got a bit awkward and said, "It could also potentially cause some problems with...his infertility..."
"......"
An awkward silence fell.
Martin didn't dare to say more, "Miss Carlson, please don't tell Mr. Thorn about what I said today."
Olivia nodded, "Don't worry Martin, I didn't hear anything."
She knew Martin also had Damien's best interests at heart, and even without his request, she would take good care of Damien.
The surgery was still ongoing, and nurses had brought in several plasma transfusions.
Time passed, and as dusk fell, the operating room finally opened.
Olivia stood up quickly, "Doctor, how is he?"
"Mr. Thorn had too many wounds, nearly his entire body is bandaged up, so he can't be moved around carelessly. He's passed the danger period, but due to severe blood loss, it will still take time for him to regain consciousness. The next 24 hours are critical, we'll monitor his condition closely as he may develop a fever from the inflammation."
Olivia nodded, her gaze shifting past the doctor to finally see Damien being wheeled out.
He was hooked up to an IV drip, eyes tightly shut. His exquisite face had a streak of blood from what looked like a knife wound, though thankfully not deep and already scabbed over.
His complexion was deathly pale, lips almost completely drained of color.
Lying there so still and silent, he was a far cry from the manic, resolute man just hours ago.
Olivia followed as he was taken to the VIP ward. Seeing they were still setting up various equipment, she went to the adjacent room to shower before returning to Damien's bedside.
The doctor left some reminders, and Olivia sat by the bed, gaze falling upon the man lying there.
