In the bustling corridors of Seabrook High, amidst the chatter of students and the occasional shuffle of feet, Y/N hurriedly made their way to their next class. Lost in thought, they failed to notice the figure approaching from the opposite direction until it was too late.
With a sudden collision, Y/N stumbled backward, their books scattering across the floor. Heart racing, they closed their eyes, bracing for the impact of the fall. But instead of hitting the ground, they felt strong hands grasp their hips, steadying them.
Opening one eye cautiously, Y/N was met with an unexpected sight—a zombie, their green hair standing out against the backdrop of the crowded hallway. But there was no hint of aggression in his eyes, only concern.
"Are you okay?" the zombie asked, his voice surprisingly gentle.
Y/N blinked in astonishment, still trying to process the surreal turn of events. "I... I think so," they stammered, feeling a flush of embarrassment creeping up their cheeks.
With Zed's help, Y/N regained their balance, gathering their scattered belongings from the floor. As they straightened up, their eyes met Zed's, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still.
There was a flicker of something unspoken passing between them—a spark of curiosity, perhaps, or the beginnings of a connection. In that brief moment, Y/N realized something: "Wait, you are that zombie who did so the football team won and also made it so that all the zombies would attend classes with us humans."
Zed's expression softened as Y/N made the connection, a hint of surprise flickering in his eyes. "Yeah, that's me," he confirmed with a sheepish grin. "I'm Zed."
Y/N couldn't help but feel a rush of admiration for the zombie before them. Zed had not only helped his team win the football match but had also played a pivotal role in bringing humans and zombies together at Seabrook High. It was no wonder he seemed so familiar, even though they had never officially met.
As Y/N straightened up, they realized that Zed's hands were still gently resting on their hips, holding them steady. A warm flush crept up Y/N's cheeks as they met Zed's gaze, their eyes locking in an unspoken moment of connection.
Zed's expression softened, a faint blush coloring his green-tinted cheeks. "Sorry," he murmured, his voice tinged with embarrassment. "I didn't mean to... uh, linger."
Y/N's heart fluttered at the sincerity in Zed's voice, and a small smile played at the corners of their lips. "It's okay," they reassured him, their own voice surprisingly steady. "Thank you... for catching me."
Zed nodded, a grateful smile spreading across his face. "Anytime," he replied, his gaze lingering on Y/N's for a moment longer than necessary.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Y/N quickly apologized before they gave him a welcoming smile. "I'm Y/N." They almost beamed, their eyes glistening from the lights of the ceiling lights.
Zed couldn't help but return Y/N's beaming smile, his own eyes twinkling with amusement. "Nice to meet you, Y/N," he said warmly, finally letting his hands drop from their hips.
As they both knelt down to gather Y/N's scattered books and papers, their hands brushed briefly, sending a small thrill through Y/N. They worked together in a comfortable silence, the chaotic hallway fading into the background.
When everything was collected, Y/N stood up, holding their books close to their chest. "Thank you for helping me," they said, feeling a bit shy now that the initial adrenaline had worn off.
Zed shrugged modestly. "It was nothing, really. I'm just glad you're okay."
Y/N smiled again, feeling an unexpected warmth towards Zed. "So, what class are you headed to?" they asked, trying to keep the conversation going.
