The day had felt endless. Each passing minute seemed to drag on, the whispers and sneers of the other students following Y/N like a shadow. It wasn't the first time he'd been bullied—being a trans male in a town like the Outer Banks didn't exactly make you popular—but today was different. Today, the comments felt sharper, the laughter more pointed, and the stares harder to ignore.
It started at the lunch table. The group of guys in the corner had decided to take their usual digs at Y/N. Laughing about things they clearly didn't understand, making remarks about his body that sent a wave of disgust through him. Every word they said felt like a slap, and by the time the bell rang to end lunch, Y/N had already decided he couldn't stay in that environment much longer.
He made it to the hallway, trying to keep his head down, but the whispers didn't stop. If anything, they only grew louder, like an endless buzzing in his ears. His heart pounded as he hurried to his next class, barely noticing the other students who moved out of his way to avoid him.
The day dragged on, a blur of hateful words and cold glares. By the time the last bell rang, Y/N was ready to collapse, feeling the weight of it all pressing down on him. He started to wonder if everything would have been good if he just hid who he was inside. But as soon as the thought crossed his mind, he shook his head. He couldn't go back to pretending to be someone he wasn't. It wasn't an option anymore. But damn, it was hard.
As he walked out of the building, the weight of the day followed him, settling on his shoulders like a heavy cloak. He could feel his eyes burning with unshed tears, but he swallowed them back, pushing the emotion deep down. Y/N wasn't the kind of guy to cry in front of people—not anymore. But right now, he just wanted to fall to the ground, screaming out to the sky.
Of course, as if the day hadn't been hard enough, he spotted the same group of guys waiting nearby, clearly waiting for something... Or, as Y/N suspected, waiting for him. One of them broke into a smirk as Y/N walked past, his voice dripping with mockery as he called out, "Hey, Y/N! Never met a girl who thinks she's a guy before!"
The others snickered, their laughter sharp and cutting, echoing in a way that seemed to cling to Y/N as much as the weight of the day had.
Y/N's steps faltered, his mind screaming at him to just keep going, to ignore them and walk away. But the words stuck to him, digging in and leaving a sting he couldn't shake. He clenched his fists, his nails digging into his palms, hoping the pain would drown out their voices.
But it didn't. The laughter only grew louder, the taunts sharper.
"Yeah, dude," another chimed in, voice thick with fake pity. "How's that whole 'pretending to be something you're not' thing going for you?"
Y/N bit his lip, his throat tightening with every word and every mocking look. He forced himself to keep walking, heart hammering in his chest. But as he took a shaky step forward, he felt a hand clamp down on his shoulder, stopping him in his tracks. He froze, fear and frustration swirling in his mind.
