The kitchen was quiet, save for the soft clink of a spoon tapping against the side of a teacup. Y/N stood at the counter, absentmindedly stirring sugar into her tea as the first rays of early morning light streamed through the window. The house was still, wrapped in the cozy silence that came before the day began.
She didn't need to look up to know Bill was awake. There was something about the sound of his footsteps—soft but steady—that always made her heart skip a beat. She heard him coming down the stairs, but she didn't turn around, too lost in the rhythm of her stirring and the warmth of the cup in her hands.
Before she could even register the smile tugging at her lips, Bill's arms were around her waist, pulling her gently back into his chest. His touch was warm, his embrace familiar and comforting, and she let herself lean into him as he buried his face in the crook of her neck.
"Morning, love," he mumbled, his voice deep and still heavy with sleep.
Y/N smiled softly, the warmth of his breath against her skin sending a shiver down her spine. "Late night?" she asked, her voice a gentle tease, though she already knew the answer.
Bill pressed a small kiss to her neck, making her sigh in contentment. "You know how it is... curses don't break themselves." His voice was laced with exhaustion, but there was a smile in it, too.
"Well, it's a good thing they don't." Y/N tilted her head slightly, resting it against his as she stirred the tea once more.
Bill chuckled softly, his arms tightening just a bit around her waist. "Yeah? And why's that?"
Y/N chuckled, letting the spoon slip from her fingers to rest gently against the rim of the cup. "Well, for starters, you wouldn't have your dream job." She replied, acting like it was oblivious.
Bill smiled against her skin, his breath warm and steady as he nuzzled closer. "That's true," he murmured, his voice soft, "though sometimes I wonder if my dream job is just waking up like this every morning."
Y/N felt a warmth spread through her chest, her fingers lightly tracing over Bill's arms as they stayed wrapped around her waist. "Is that so?" she teased, a smile playing on her lips.
Turning her head ever so slightly, letting her lips hover near his, teasing him with the possibility of a kiss. Bill's eyes flickered with anticipation, his grip around her waist tightening just a bit as he leaned in.
But instead of closing the gap, Y/N smirked and brought her cup of tea up between them, taking a slow, deliberate sip.
Bill blinked, clearly caught off guard, before a playful grin tugged at the corner of his mouth. "You little tease," he muttered, his voice warm with amusement.
Y/N lowered the cup, an innocent look on her face as she feigned confusion. "What? You looked like you needed a little more time to wake up," she teased, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
Bill chuckled, shaking his head. "Cruel. But fair." He leaned in closer, his lips brushing against her ear as he whispered, "Just know that I'm not letting you off that easy."
Before Y/N could respond, Bill quickly spun her around, closing the distance between them in one smooth motion. His lips finally met hers, and the soft kiss he planted was filled with warmth and affection, making her toes curl just slightly.
Y/N couldn't help but smile into the kiss, her hand instinctively moving up to tangle in Bill's hair as she returned the affection. The world outside the kitchen seemed to melt away, leaving just the two of them wrapped in the quiet intimacy of the moment.
His kiss was slow and tender, the kind that made her feel like time had slowed down just for them. When they finally pulled apart, Y/N was breathless, her heart racing a little faster.
