"How does someone fall asleep during a horror movie?" Jaxon laughs as I carefully take a picture of a snoozing Asher, who fell asleep with his head still on my lap and hugging his bag of half-eaten jelly beans halfway through the movie.
"Be nice. He had a very eventful family dinner before he came over." I say, brushing a stray strand of hair off Asher's forehead. Out of the corner of my eye I see Ryker roll his eyes.
"Lightweight." Carter mutters before getting up and going upstairs to bed.
"Nighty night, Car-Car." Jaxon says in a silly voice as she walks up the stairs.
"Yeah, whatever." We hear her mumble from the stairs, making Jaxon smile more.
"Are you crashing or leaving?" Abi asks Jaxon.
"Crashing. I'm too wiped to drive, and Molly had a sleepover with all her friends." He decides after a moment. "And waking up to six 8-year-olds is not my idea of a good time." He shudders at the thought.
"Fair enough. Couch is yours." She tells him. "Night guys." She starts to head upstairs too. We all call goodnight to her.
"Breakfast is on me tomorrow!" Jaxon calls after her. Her head pops back around the corner of the living room wall, making me laugh.
"Benny's?" She asks excitedly. Jaxon closes his eyes for a moment and laughs.
"Yes, Benny's." He tells her.
"Yes!" She pumps her fist in the air then heads off to her room.
Benny's Diner is our favorite place to go for breakfast, and a popular hangout spot in town. It's also the only place in town that's open 24-hours, other than the mini mart. It's a small place with a classic American diner feel and 50s themed décor. On Saturdays, the waitresses all wear roller skates, and in the evening there's karaoke. Their milkshakes are made from a top-secret family recipe that only Benny and his children know, and they are amazing.
"You're invited too, Little Rig." Jaxon says, nudging my shoulder. "And these idiots if they're around too." he adds, lightly punching Ryker on the arm and nodding at Asher.
"I'm in. Shoot me a text when you guys head out." Ryker says as he gets up and puts his shoes back on. "I'm gonna head out. See you guys in the morning." We say our goodbyes and he leaves to walk back to his place.
"Hey, Ash." I say quietly, gently shaking his shoulder. He stirs a bit and groans.
"Mm, what time is it?" He asks without opening his eyes. I carefully pluck the forgotten bag of candy from his arms and set it on the coffee table.
"A little after 2." I tell him as I gently run my fingers through the soft waves of his hair. "Are you staying, or do you have to go home? We're all hitting Benny's in the morning." I tell him.
