The following Monday afternoon, I get a text from Jaxon while finishing up a painting.

1:36pm Jaxon: Hey, are you at home rn?

I tilt my head in confusion but respond immediately anyway.

     1:36pm Bastiana: Yeah. Why?

1:37pm Jaxon: Is it okay if I come over and hang out?

1:37pm Bastiana: No. Absolutely not. How dare you even ask. The audacity.

I smile to myself as I quickly type out a second message.

1:37pm Bastiana: Kidding. Of course you can come over, dork.

1:38pm Jaxon: Had me worried for a second there...

1:38pm Jaxon: But good cause I'm already here.

1:38pm Bastiana: Okay. You can just come in. I'm upstairs painting and no one else is here.

A minute later I hear the front door open and close then feet on the stairs before my bedroom door opens.

"Hey, Bastiana." Jaxon smiles at me as he stands in my doorway. "Mind if I come in for a bit?"

"Not at all. What's up?" I swing my arm out, gesturing for him to come in.

"Just bored and figured I'd come see what the second Rigby sister was up to." He shrugs as he pulls out my desk chair, straddling it backwards and crossing his arms over the back to lean on them. "Where is everyone?"

"Mom took Car and Dil to the roller rink for the afternoon since she got the day off." I explain before I realize something. "Wait - shouldn't you be at the Torch Ceremony with the first Rigby sister?" I ask, tilting my head in confusion. "I thought that was today."

"It was." He nods. "It was at the start of practice so the grads could leave early."

"Uh, then where's Abi?" I ask, still confused. "Shouldn't she be with you?

"She wanted to stay for the rest of practice and make sure we were leaving the team in good hands." He says. "She stayed to hear the new line up and watch the rest of practice."

"Yeah. She's having a hard time letting go." I sigh softly and look away. "She doesn't want to let go of this part of her life. She loved playing football with you guys but she knows that this is as far as it goes for her. She doesn't want that chapter of her life to end yet."

"Hey." Jaxon says softly, bringing my attention back to him. "Riggy is going to be just fine. She'll find something new to fill that time. College is going to keep her busy." He gives me a soft smile.
