"So, what did she say about homecoming?" I ask Ash as we walk into the locker room before the game. "Is she going with him or not?"
"When I asked her in English she said that he hadn't asked her before today, so she brought it up when they had lunch together today." He shakes his head.
"He didn't even ask her? The dance is tomorrow." I roll my eyes. "What did he say when she asked him?"
"She told me that he explained that he didn't ask her because he has a big family dinner tomorrow night, so he isn't going." Ash sighs as we open our lockers and drop our bags on the bench in front of them.
"And he didn't think to tell her about any of this before today?" I growl. "What an asshole." I grit my teeth as I start to get my football uniform out of my duffle and Ash does the same. "So what did she say about the dance?"
"Well, at first she said she didn't want to go without a date. She told me that showing up without Nico would make her look pathetic." Ash frowns and shakes his head.
"But you told her she was wrong, right?" I ask, knowing there's no way Ash let her stay sad like that.
"Of course I did." He gives me a small smile as he starts to unbutton his dress shirt. "I told her that she could never be pathetic and since she already had the dress picked out that she has to go. But she still said she didn't want to go without a date. And I'm willing to bet you know what I told her next." He gives me a mischievous smirk.
"That not only would she have a date, she would have two dates?" I guess with a smirk.
"Of course." He laughs lightly and removes his button down.
My eyes linger on his exposed chest for a few seconds before I shake my head and focus on removing my own dress shirt. I hate dressing up on game days, but Coach mandates it. Although, I'm starting to like seeing Ash dress up. His button downs and slacks always fit so well and show off his muscles in a subtle way.
"So, she's going with us then, right?" I confirm.
"Of course she is, Ry." I look over at his face and catch him looking at my now exposed chest before his eyes flick up to mine and he gives me a sheepish smile before looking away. I can see his cheeks tint with a soft blush as he continues speaking. "There's no way she'd turn us down. She said she can't wait."
"Good. Good." I mumble as I look away and continue undressing.
My thoughts begin to wander as I wonder how tomorrow night will go. Will she still enjoy the night with us even though she'd rather be there with Nico? Is it going to be awkward? No, why would it be? Before she started dating Nico she always went to school dances with the two of us and sometimes Liz, too.
We'd all hang out and talk, enjoying the music and the company. I didn't really like being there, but I liked hanging out with Tiana and Ash, so I still went. Tiana would dance with Ash and Liz. She always tried to get me to join them, but I wasn't much of a dancer, so I usually opted to stay on the sidelines.
