Lily POV
Tiny sat mischievously on the end of the bed, waiting for me after I got out of the bath. He nodded to a large blue box with a light blue bow wrapped around it, and I smiled.
He remembered.
No one has ever remembered my birthday, and I thought this year would be no different. But leave it to Tiny and the Riders to ensure it wasn't forgotten in the chaos. I didn't ask for anything, and I had no idea what Tiny could have gotten me. Either way, this is already the best birthday yet.
Tears flowed as I opened the present and pulled out the pastry tool set and a recipe book from my favorite TV show. But what surprised me was the apron with the Phoenix Rider's logo and Tiny's name and nickname for me underneath. I looked at Tiny, who beamed from ear to ear, making me fall even more in love with him.
It is perfect. Tiny thought of everything, and I could not have asked for anything better.
"There is one more thing, Sunshine," Tiny said, motioning towards the box.
The last gift inside: the well-respected Rider cut, with my name sewn onto the front. Tears sprang to my eyes as I placed the apron on the bed, picked up the black cut, and rubbed my thumb over my sewn-on name.
It's permanent. Tiny wants me to be a part of his life forever.
Running my hands over it, I felt something on the back and flipped it over. A patch saying: "Phoenix Rider: Protected by TINY" was sewn on the back. My breath caught in my chest as I stared at the words.
All the other girl's cuts say "property of" with their Rider's name, but not mine. Tiny understands I don't want to be owned by someone, having lived under the control of someone my whole life, and I didn't want to be anymore. However, to be protected by someone is something I have never known; until Tiny.
Tiny stood and took one of my hands in his. "I know things have been crazy the last few weeks, but I never asked you to be my Old Lady, and I refuse to miss the opportunity again," he firmly stated.
My heart raced as I listened to his words and processed what Tiny was saying.
"I'm not asking you to decide right now or even tomorrow. Take your time, talk to the girls or Pops and-"
"Pops!" I shouted, cutting Tiny off and pushing the cut into his hands. "Oh my gosh, I completely forgot to call him and tell him I'm okay!"
I looked around, finding my phone on the nightstand charging, and dialed the familiar number. It rang several times as I bounced on my toes, waiting for him to answer. After the umteenth ring, Pops picked up and groggily said, "Hello?"
"Pops! It's me, Lily!" I shouted. "I'm so sorry I didn't call earlier, but I'm at the Rider's clubhouse. Safe," I assured him and looked up to see Tiny shaking his head, laughing.
"I know. Tiger called me the day, and as happy as I am to hear you are back, I don't want to see your beautiful face back for a while. Rest Lily, you are long overdue for a well-deserved break," Pops laughed.
"But-"
"No, Lily. Enjoy your time off, and Lily?"
"Yeah," I whispered.
"Happy eighteenth birthday," Pops said, and he hung up.
I stared at my phone, saw the time, and smiled.
1 a.m.. My birthday.
Pops was the only person who ever remembered my birthday, and every year he attempts to bake me a cake. However, after last year's disaster, I told him to stick to the box mix.
Plugging my phone back in, I put the presents back in the box and set it on the nightstand. Tiny held the cut, which held an enormous weight, and sat next to him. It was a big decision, but truthfully, there was only one possible answer. However, Tiny deserves to be told with as much love as he asked me.
"You always know how to keep a girl on her toes. Thank you for remembering my birthday and making it perfect," I hummed.
"It's only just beginning," Tiny smiled, wiggling his eyebrows, making me laugh.
We crawled into bed and watched my favorite baking show until my eyes drifted closed. Tiny got out from under the covers, tucked me in, and kissed my head. The bed felt empty without Tiny, and I didn't want to spend my birthday alone.
I reached for his hand and stared up at him. "Sleep with me tonight."
Tiny's green eyes stared back at me, unsure.
"Please?" I pleaded.
Tiny nodded and one-handed, slid his shirt over his head, giving me a full view of his muscles before climbing into bed with me. Being the southern gentleman he is, Tiny stayed on his half of the bed, and the only contact we had was our joined hands. But I wanted more, and I knew it was up to me.
I slid over and turned to face Tiny. He laid on his back, staring up at the ceiling, and I took the opportunity to scoot even closer, causing the front of my body to barely touch against his side. Tiny turned and looked at me but remained silent.
Did I over-step? Is there a boundary I didn't know about that I crossed?
Doubt filled my mind, and I pulled away, turning away from him, not wanting to make things worse. But Tiny grabbed my hips, igniting my skin as he dragged my body back to his, and I stilled. I could feel Tiny's lips next to my ear, and I held my breath, waiting to hear the wrongdoings I'd done.
"I am a gentleman through and through until one of two things happens. One, you tell me not to be. Or two, you need a reminder of how much I love you. I will do whatever to show you that you are perfect, just as you are. Tell me, Sunshine, do you need a reminder?" he growled in my ear, sending shivers down my spine.
No wonder Kayla got knocked up so quickly. These men are addicting, make your head spin, and want to jump their bones. What do I do now?
