"I did it!" Mizuko pumped her fist in the air.It took until the day before classes started for Mizuko to finally be able to turn the sphere of water into a sphere of ice. Sweat poured off her brow. She was exhausted but she was so happy that her hard work was paying off. It wasn't anywhere near Todoroki's level of power but for someone like her, it was a start.
She dropped the sphere of ice onto the ground. She showcased her hard work to Todoroki. She started jumping up and down.
Todoroki smirked looking at her excitement. He held up his end of bargain for teaching her how to manipulate her ocean water into ice. However as the week dragged on, he knew it wasn't doing this because of an agreement. He was doing this to see her smile and just to spend time with her. He didn't realize how fond of her he had grown.
"Shirakumo. I'm proud of how far you've come." He said with a slight inflection in his voice.
She wiped the sweat off her face and gave him a sweet smile.
"Todoroki - I couldn't have done it without you! You're amazing! I just need to keep practicing."
That smile. She makes me feel at ease as if everything is okay in this world. I keep feeling pulled towards you like a magnet. These feelings I have, are they something more? No, they can't be. But that doesn't explain the way my heart feels around her. If it only were that simple to tell her...
"Let's take a break" Todoroki tossed her a water while sitting down by the oak tree.
Shirakumo caught the water bottle and followed Todoroki. It was the end of their training together. School was about to start the next day and it was about a week since the USJ incident. Things would start to go back to normal soon. Mizuko didn't want these training sessions with Todoroki to end.
"Shoto, do you think we could train together even after school starts again? I mean my dad doesn't mind that I'm out later since I have permission and I'm training. I mean only if you wanted to... I don't want you to do something you didn't want to... I just think we both help each other get stronger... oh god I'm rambling aren't I, well-"
"Mizuko." Todoroki cut her off
Mizuko heard her first name being used by him. She had her heart race because of him before but nothing like this. It sounded sweet coming off of his lips.
"I can call you Mizuko right? You called me Shoto just now"
Mizuko didn't realize what she just did. Her eyes twitched.
"Mizuko, why do you turn into a different person when you mention your parents?" Todoroki felt that he was now close enough to ask about it. He was wondering why every time she mentions her family that she shuts down. He felt they were close enough now, I mean they are on a first name basis now, right?
Mizuko fidgeted. She had never told anyone about her family life before. No one ever seemed to care- not until Todoroki. He trusted her enough to become her friend, not something to take lightly for him. She owed it to him. She pulled her hair behind her ear as she inhaled..
"My dad just wants me to number one... but I don't want to be. My uncle Oboro was actually a UA student with Mr. Aizawa and Present Mic. Sadly, my uncle Oboro died in battle before he even graduated. My dad was heartbroken and he's quirkless. He always pictured Oboro as the best hero and he was always jealous that he never had a quirk of his own. People thought I was going to be quirkless, my ocean quirk didn't manifest until I was 8. Dad said it was a gift and it shouldn't be wasted and that I had to be the hero Oboro was meant to be. That's why he is so harsh and strict. He wants me to be Oboro.. but I'm not him... I hate the constant lessons, I hate not feeling loved. I hate being a replacement for his brother!"
