"Are you ready to go?"
Taehyung groaned as Hoseok asked him the same question for the hundredth time.
The weekend of Hoseok's big business gala had arrived and they had made the short trip to Incheon together. Hoseok had booked them a perfectly lovely suite, and if Taehyung was being honest, he would much rather be putting on his pyjamas and testing the room service dessert menu than suiting up to socialise.
"One second, I have to put on my tie- and then I need to pee." Taehyung responded from the bathroom.
"Again? You've gone like thirty times in the last hour! How small is your bladder? The size of a peanut?" Hoseok scoffed.
"Yeah, it is." Taehyung retorted, rolling his eyes.
"Come on Taehyung, I need to be there on time, or it leaves a bad impression!" Hoseok whinged impatiently.
"I'm sure all the other rich men won't miss you too much." Taehyung quipped.
"Yeah, well, Jaebum and Youngjae are going to be here so you can finally meet them- even though I said we would meet them months ago..." Hoseok trailed of guiltily.
"Huh?" Taehyung said, wracking his brains for a memory of those names. "Oh yeah- you mentioned them ages ago, I thought that they ended up never moving to Seoul or something since you never asked to meet them."
"No, I just kind of forgot to make plans and you know I'm busy most of the time." Hoseok rambled, making excuses for himself. "And any time off I get I prefer to spend with you.."
"We could have made time to meet them." Taehyung tutted. "They moved to a whole new city- they could have used the support!"
He recalled moving to Seoul alone years prior, and the crushing isolation he felt in such a huge city.
"You can't be mad because they moved just before your birthday and-"
"My birthday was in December! In the literal months since then we could have spared a few hours to invite them over." Taehyung pointed out.
"But after your birthday there was my birthday, and then our anniversary was coming up- I was busy planning the most amazing first anniversary for the love of my life." Hoseok adjusted his shirt's collar as he spoke. "So, it just slipped my mind. I've already apologised to Jaebum for not meeting up with them, so he's okay as long as we have a drink with him today."
"I assume he knows I'm going to be there with you...?" Taehyung asked unsurely.
"Yeah, he does. He's known about you since before we made things official. Everyone knows about you." Hoseok smiled fondly. "I talk about you to just about everyone who will listen."
"No way do you talk about me to everyone." Taehyung snorted, rolling his eyes as he fixed his hair in the mirror, fluffing it out the way he liked.
"It's hard not to, we do absolutely everything together so if someone asks me how my weekend was I'm always like 'my boyfriend and I did this'. My whole world pretty much revolves around you."
Taehyung finally emerged from the bathroom, and Hoseok gave him a look.
"Your tie is all crooked, honey." He chuckled, pulling Taehyung closer so he could retie his tie. "There we go."
"Okay- how do I look?" Taehyung beamed once Hoseok had straightened him out.
"You look beautiful, Taehyung." Hoseok smiled. "You always do."
"Thank you~ You look really handsome too." Taehyung cooed. "And look- I'm wearing the necklace you gave me when we were in Japan."
"Oh, yeah!" Hoseok grinned as he leaned in to inspect the pendant. "It really does suit you."
"I know, doesn't it?" Taehyung was rather fond of the necklace, and more so the meaning behind it. "Are we ready to go?"
Hoseok smiled, taking the younger's hand in his. "Let's do this."
-
Taehyung grabbed onto Hoseok's sleeve anxiously as they entered the event room filled with suited-up men and women in beautiful dresses.
"Are you nervous?" Hoseok asked as Taehyung hung back warily.
Taehyung made a face, pouting his lips. "A little.. What if they don't like me? I'm not rich like everyone else, I don't own a company.. I don't even have a job."
"Everyone's going to love you~" Hoseok assured him dotingly. "I for one am very excited to show off my gorgeous boyfriend."
"Everyone in your office didn't love me." Taehyung said sheepishly. "Your receptionist hated me and-"
"Well I'll make it company policy that they have to like you when we're back home." Hoseok had an authoritive air about him as he spoke. "If they don't, they're fired."
"I'm pretty sure that'll get you in some legal trouble for unfair dismissal." Taehyung pointed out. "You can't go around firing people because they don't like me."
"I'll do what I have to do." Hoseok said, leading Taehyung over to the bar. "Want a drink?"
"Definitely, I'll need it if I'm going to socialize with all of these dickheads." Taehyung sighed.
"Babe, they're associates, don't call them dickheads." Hoseok shoved Taehyung's arm playfully.
"Whatever." Taehyung grinned. "Get me a glass of red so I can fit in with the associates."
"As you wish, sir." Hoseok giggled, waving down the bartender to order drinks for himself and his lover.
"What should I tell all of these corporate fat cats if they ask me what I do for a living?" Taehyung swirled his wine around in what he hoped was a sophisticated manner.
"Just tell them you're a professional escort." Hoseok giggled as Taehyung gave him a dirty look. "Or just the truth- that you're a student."
"Yeah but they're all snooty and rich, and they won't be impressed by a mere student." Taehyung scoffed.
"But they will be impressed by me, who is somehow banging that twenty two year old, smoking hot student." Hoseok pointed out smugly.
Taehyung rolled his eyes. "This is why we can't go nice places, Hoseok."
"Listen, I don't want to be here any more than you do, but it's just something I have to suffer through every now and again." Hoseok groaned as he mentally prepared himself for the hours of painful small talk ahead of him. "And by the way, I hope you don't see me as one of the 'snooty corporate fat cats' that you were talking about."
"Well, you are a multi-millionaire before the age of thirty..." Taehyung trailed off, giving Hoseok a mischievous look. "That's some one percent shit in my eyes."
"Do not call me part of the one percent again." Hoseok gasped in offence. "I don't have a million in cash; a lot of my money's tied up in property and investments. Besides, I give a lot to charity- even more so since I met you."
"Are you calling me a charity case?!" Taehyung crowed in mock offence; even he had to admit that all of the comforts in his life had been afforded to him by his very generous boyfriend.
"Well..." Hoseok trailed off playfully, before his eye was caught by someone waving at him from across the room. "Shit, I've been spotted. Alright, smile, Taehyung, and be nice because that man is a client of mine."
"Should I make up a fake name and tell them I'm like, Juan and I'm half Spanish and-" Taehyung began.
"Taehyung, I am begging you: do not do any of that. In fact, if you feel an urge to do anything, it's probably a safe bet to do the exact opposite of that— Hello!" Hoseok smiled widely as he cut his quip short to greet his client.
"Hello!"
"Taehyung, this is one of my clients, Kangdae, he's the head of a construction company in Daegu, and his wife, Choonhee."
"Nice to meet you both!" Taehyung chirped, holding his hand out to be shook.
"This is my partner, Taehyung." Hoseok informed, gesturing to the boy hanging off his arm.
"Oh, I didn't think you had a business partner."
"Ah.. no." Hoseok laughed, wondering how there could be any confusion when the younger was clinging to him fondly. "Taehyung is my romantic partner, he's my boyfriend."
"Oh-! Sorry, I never knew!" Kangdae's eyes were as wide as saucers.
