❝The gaunt brothers.. Shit!❞

______________________________

After last night, Sebastian never returned to the room. No letter. No explanation. Nothing.

Anne and I sat at the breakfast table, both nursing brutal hangovers with giant glasses of water. I was still wearing Sebastian's sweater, and ironically, Anne was wearing the same style as mine. The only difference? Hers had Anne Sallow written across it, while mine read Sebastian Sallow.

My hair was a mess, my makeup smudged beyond repair, and Anne was staring at me—hard.

I shifted uncomfortably, my fingers tightening around my glass. She was making me nervous.

"About last night," she started.

My stomach twisted.

What did she know? Did she know I kissed her brother? That he pinned me down, touched me, left me breathless, then disappeared? Had she heard us before he cast the Silencing Charm?

I swallowed, trying to keep my expression blank. "What about it?"

Anne tilted her head, eyes narrowing. "Why was Sebastian covered in blood?"

My breath caught.

"What the hell happened upstairs?" she pressed, crossing her arms.

This felt like an interrogation—and I was the criminal.

I shook my head quickly. "I really don't know why he was covered in blood," I told her, and for once, I wasn't lying. The night at The Three Broomsticks was a blur, fragmented and hazy.

Anne wasn't convinced. "So you didn't see him follow you upstairs? Because he sure as hell saw you."

My lips parted slightly.

"He told me to bring your ass home right after he came back dripping in blood," she continued. "Think, Ella. Really think. You must have seen him."

"I didn't," I insisted. "I swear. And if I did, I—I really don't remember, Anne. You have to believe me."

Anne's eyes stayed locked on mine, searching for cracks in my story.

"So you just went upstairs to the bathroom?"

I nodded.

"She didn't go to the bathroom." A deep, dark voice cut through the room.

Anne and I nearly jumped out of our chairs.

Sebastian.

He was sprawled out on the sofa, a book in hand, legs spread wide, watching us.

My heart slammed against my ribs.

"Where the hell did you come from!?" Anne snapped, pressing a hand to her chest.

"Lewis," he lied smoothly, flipping a page like he hadn't just terrified us both.

Anne scoffed. "You weren't there a moment ago, Sebastian. How did you even get inside?"
