❝Mr Gaunt's face was halfway a grin and halfway a smile. A thundering threat.❞

After leaving Ominis in the hallway, I clung tightly to Marvolo's hand, seeking the comfort of his warmth. He led us up the stairs toward the nearest Floo Flame, but my vision blurred as I struggled to hold back the tears welling in my eyes. I needed to pull myself together.
Just before we reached the Floo Flame, a glimpse of white caught my attention—a note sticking out of Marvolo's pocket. Without thinking, I snatched it and quickly unfolded it. Marvolo's head turned slightly, his steps slowing as he noticed what I had done.
He reached for the note, but I yanked it away, anger bubbling inside me.
"Stop mistrusting me again," he murmured, stepping closer, his hand moving to retrieve it. "You need to stop assuming the worst and start trusting me already."
"Can you blame me?" I shot back, snatching the note away once more. "Look at what just happened to me tonight!"
Marvolo exhaled sharply, letting go of my hand as he turned to face me fully. "And you know that wasn't my doing, Angella. I don't deserve this."
"Then why are you hiding this note from me? That only makes you look guilty, Marvolo. Just let me read it!" I unfolded it quickly, my breath catching as my eyes scanned the words.
Was he really taking me to the Undercroft... to meet with his father?
I lifted my gaze to his, my voice trembling. "Don't you dare—"
"I'm not letting you bring me to him!" I growled.
Frustration flickered across his face as he glanced up at the ceiling, exhaling slowly.
"You are unbelievable, Gaunt! Who do you think I am? A victim? A hostage? A slave? Prey?" My lower lip trembled.
Marvolo's blue eyes darkened under the dim torchlight before he suddenly moved. In an instant, his strong hands gripped me, lifting me off the ground. I gasped as my body collided against his back, my legs dangling over his shoulder. A firm hand clamped around my bare thigh, securing me in place.
"Let me go!" I screamed, thrashing against him, pounding my fists into his back. My feet kicked wildly against his chest, but he held firm, striding purposefully toward the Floo Flame.
In a blink, the dungeon disappeared, and we reappeared in the Defense Against the Dark Arts tower. His heavy footsteps echoed as he climbed the stairs, knocking something over in his haste. I fought against him with everything I had, but his grip was unyielding.
"You're going to regret this, Marvolo!" I warned, my voice laced with fury.
"Shut your damn mouth, woman!" he snapped, his voice edged with rage.
Darkness swallowed us as we stepped through the entrance, revealing the candlelit chamber and the eerie atmosphere of the Undercroft.
"I can't believe you're doing this!" I roared, yanking at his hair.
His grip on my leg loosened abruptly, and he let me fall. I landed hard, the impact jarring, but I didn't hesitate. In a heartbeat, I was back on my feet, lunging at him.
"Fuck! I don't know how people put up with her arrogant side," he growled, trying to pry my hands off him as I clawed at him.
A faint chuckle echoed through the chamber.
