Angella, listen to me—you need to get to a safe place!"

Marvolo's rough hand held me steady as we walked, but when I reached to touch his in silent thanks, he flinched.

"You're hurt!" I blurted.

"It's nothing, don't worry about it," he said with a soft smile.

I stopped immediately, scanning his hand and wrist. His fingers were swollen, his knuckles split, and it was clear that several bones were broken.

"We need to get you to the infirmary," I said, gripping his arm as if I could somehow hold him together.

But Marvolo suddenly pulled back, his jaw tightening. "I can't go to the infirmary. Nurse Blainey would ask too many questions. And I promised my father I'd behave at school."

I frowned, glancing around. I couldn't take him to the Room of Requirement—it was still a secret to most. And the Undercroft was out of the question; I had made a promise to Ominis.

That left only one place.

"The Scriptorium," I said, already pulling him in the direction of the Gaunt family tomb.

The large serpent-engraved door groaned as it twisted open, revealing the dimly lit chamber within. Candlelight flickered against the stone walls, shadows stretching and curling like ghosts.

"Good thinking," Marvolo murmured behind me.

"Nothing better than a family crypt for some healing, right?" I chuckled dryly.

I guided him to a chair, then searched the room for supplies. A few drawers held bandages, and in the cabinets, I found potions labeled with names I barely recognized.

Marvolo waited patiently as I knelt in front of him.

"You have your wand with you, right?"

"In my right pocket," he said. "I can't grab it with this hand—you'll have to get it yourself." He leaned forward slightly, watching me.

I swallowed and slid my fingers into the pocket of his jeans, searching for the wand. The fabric was tight, making it difficult to reach.

"It's not in here," I muttered, frustrated.

"My fault, I forgot," he said, grinning. Then, with a casual flick, he pulled back his leather jacket to reveal his wand tucked into an inside pocket.

I exhaled sharply, pulling the wand free. "Do you enjoy messing with me?"

"I do," he admitted, smirking. "You're so focused on fixing me."

"Get used to it," I half-smiled and raised the wand. "This might sting a little."

"Episkey."

A sharp crack echoed in the chamber as some of the smaller bones snapped back into place. Marvolo let out a low grunt, his fingers twitching from the impact. Blood seeped through the broken skin of his knuckles, and I quickly pressed a cloth against it.

"One more," I said gently.

"Episkey."

Another jolt of magic pulsed through his hand, healing more fractures, but the larger breaks remained.

"I can't fix the rest," I admitted, my fingers brushing lightly over his hand in reassurance. "All I can do is give you a few Wiggenweld potions, wrap it, and let it heal naturally. Or... I could sneak into the nurse's office later and grab some Skele-Gro."
