❝Scream my name, angel, let everyone know you're mine.❞

"So, you really didn't know about my parents' murder?" I asked, curiosity lacing my voice.
Marvolo said nothing at first. Instead, he reached for my duster, tying it around me to cover my half-exposed body before stepping toward the bed. "I wish I had known sooner," he muttered. "Maybe then, I could have stopped this—stopped us—before it ever started."
A flicker of regret crossed my face. "So... you wouldn't have asked me as your date?"
He sat on the edge of the bed, his head bowed, eyes locked onto the vial in his hands. "You don't get it," he whispered. "I would have done anything. I would have thrown everything away just for you. If I had known the truth, I never would have come near you at all."
"You're better off without me."
I stepped closer, concern growing at the weight of his confession. "Do you really believe that?"
His jaw tightened as he lifted his head, his eyes dark and certain. "I know so."
Without another word, he gestured for me to turn around, my back facing him. I obeyed, settling onto my knees between his legs as I heard the quiet pop of a vial being uncapped.
I let the duster slip from my shoulders so he could tend to my wounds, the scent of the oil filling the air as his warm hands pressed against my skin.
His touch was gentle, careful as he spread the cure across my back. I glanced at him over my shoulder. "The hardest part about walking away right now is knowing you won't come after me again. This is your decision."
"You think this is easy for me?" he asked, voice tight as he massaged the oil into my shoulders.
"No," I admitted softly.
"I knew it wouldn't last. You and me... I knew from the moment we first spoke. And yet, I still hoped. I still believed that maybe, just once, something good could stay." His voice was barely above a whisper.
He sighed and pulled on my body slightly, signaling for me to turn around so he could continue the healing.
"But I'm staying, Marvolo. I made this deal with your father for a reason. We are meant to be together," I said, my eyes searching his for reassurance.
His hands moved slowly down my arms, his fingers gliding over my skin as his gaze met mine again. "But I don't want you to be with me under these circumstances."
"I did it for me," I whispered.
"No, you didn't... and you're a fool if you believe your own lies. You did it for him," he said, impatience creeping into his voice.
I shook my head. "No, I chose us."
His grip tightened slightly as he smoothed the oil over my waist. "I hate it when you do that. You keep asking me to trust you, but in return, all I get are lies and half-truths."
"Alright!" I yelled, standing abruptly and stepping away from him.
"I had to save Sebastian, Marvolo. Because I still love him, whether you like it or not. But I made my decision—I said goodbye to him last night."
I turned toward the window, my thoughts drifting back to the night before. Warmth crept into my cheeks, and I knew I was blushing.
"Are you still thinking about him?" Marvolo asked. He already knew the answer.
