❝We waved to the crowd before stepping offstage, our adrenaline still pumping.❞

The Slytherin common room was eerily quiet for a Halloween party. As Marvolo and I made our way toward the open area, the hallway grew more crowded, students gathering in hushed anticipation.
No blasting music. No chatter. Just silence.
Was it already over? Had it not even started yet?
Ahead of us, a line had formed at the entrance. Tables were set up with masks and uniforms for those who hadn't brought their own. But the real spectacle was the enormous round gate standing behind Imelda Reyes. She clutched a long parchment in her hands, checking off names as each student approached.
One by one, people stepped through the gate, and as they did, a brilliant red glow of magic swirled around them, pulling them into the unknown. They vanished instantly.
We were next.
"Name?" Imelda snapped, eyes flicking up from her list.
I was too mesmerized by the entrance to respond, captivated by the sheer beauty of the magic at play.
"Name?" she screeched again.
"Gaunt," Marvolo answered.
Silence stretched for a beat before Imelda frowned. "That's not possible. I already have a Gaunt inside." She squinted at him. "Give me your real name, boo. Step aside while I let the others in."
I turned to Imelda, and the moment she recognized me, her expression softened. "Angella Delgado, damn, you look to die for. Who's your date tonight, queen?"
A slow smile curled on my lips. "I'm with Gaunt, Imelda." I gestured to Marvolo.
Her frown deepened. "Like I said, I already have a Gaunt inside. And he was wearing something completely different than this devil suit." She folded her arms. "I need a real name, or you're not getting in. Sorry."
Marvolo's jaw tensed. "Reyes, let me inside, or I'll have a word with Professor Kogawa about your spot on the Quidditch team."
Imelda scoffed. "You don't scare me, fake Gaunt. Now step aside, or I'll have you removed. And once you're out, you won't be allowed back in."
Marvolo shifted, looming over her, his height and presence suddenly overwhelming. As if in response, the illusion of his skull makeup faded away, revealing his true face beneath.
Imelda's eyes widened in shock. "You look like Ominis..." she murmured, the confidence draining from her voice.
Grinning, I reached for Marvolo's hand, lacing my fingers with his before he could do anything reckless. "He's his brother," I teased.
Her fingers scrambled over the parchment, flipping through the pages. "Hold on, let me check the other lists..." A few tense moments passed before she exhaled in relief. "Found it. Gaunt, Marvolo. Seventh year." She marked his name with a red line and huffed. "Fine. Have fun."
Marvolo smirked. "Thank you."
As the magic rippled over his face, restoring his skull illusion, he turned to me. "Let's enter, my queen."
His hand rested lightly on my back, guiding me through the gate.
The moment we stepped inside, sound hit me like a tidal wave.
Where there had been eerie silence, now there was chaos.
The music was deafening, bass vibrating through the floor. Everywhere I looked, people were drinking, dancing, chatting, playing games. The room was alive.
