❝Ready to give the Kiss to those who deserve it.❞
______________________________
Both Poppy and Ominis congratulated us on the marriage. Even Deek and Louna joined in.
I was truly a Gaunt now. Who would have ever thought that?
Afterwards, I slipped away to greet my creatures—my loyal, patient friends who had missed me as much as I had missed them. I petted, cuddled, and tickled each one, their happy chirps and trills filling the air. My furry children.
And yet, beneath the warmth, a quiet thought stirred. A possibility. That maybe—just maybe—a tiny life was already beginning within me. I prayed it wasn't, not yet. It was too soon. Still, I had to be carefull, just in case. I wasn't about to give it up if it was real.
My mother had been young when she had Lorenzo. She had managed—finished school, found work, built a life of her own. If she could do it, perhaps I could too.
"Are you happy they're here, darling?" Marvolo's voice came softly from beside me. He reached out to stroke Highwing's head.
That caught me off guard. Highwing didn't let just anyone touch him. The poor hippogriff had never quite recovered from the trauma of his capture by poachers. Trust was hard-won.
He had never trusted Sebastian.
I blinked the thought away and nodded, smiling faintly. "I am. Thank you for allowing them in your home."
Marvolo returned the smile, his fingers brushing my chin to tilt it upward. "Our home," he murmured, before his lips met mine in a tender kiss.
Then his breath grazed my ear. "And when we have the place to ourselves," he whispered, his voice low and edged with a growl, "I'll take you to every room there is."
"Hey, lovebirds—ready to move?" Ominis called from behind us.
Marvolo chuckled, lacing his fingers through mine as we joined Poppy and Ominis by the door.
We gathered in his office, waiting before the grand fireplace that shimmered faintly under a protection charm. Marvolo lifted the enchantment with a flick of his wand.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"To the Minister of Magic, of course," Ominis replied, already reaching for the Floo powder. "To seal the marriage properly."
"I thought he was coming here," I said, frowning.
Ominis laughed. "The Minister? Hardly. The man fears my father more than I do." He tossed the powder into the flames and vanished in a swirl of green.
"Are we going to his house?" I asked, watching Poppy step into the fire next and disappear.
Marvolo's laugh was low, amused. "No, love. We're going to the Ministry."
I shook my head quickly. "I can't—I've never been there before! How am I supposed to travel somewhere I can't picture?"
He extended a hand. "Then stay close," he said gently. "We'll go together. That way, I'll know you're safe."
I stepped into his embrace. Marvolo threw the powder into the fireplace, and emerald flames roared up around us. In an instant, we were gone.
We stepped out into a massive hall lined with fireplaces, each flaring faintly green. The polished floors gleamed, and the walls and arches shimmered in deep green and gold. At the center stood a grand fountain, a golden sculpture of intertwined magical beings.
