❝Chaos may run in my blood, but this was something else entirely❞

~Marvolo's POV~

After our meal in Alturas, my precious angel took my hand and led me through dimly lit hallways. The walls were painted black, their edges concealed by shimmering fake diamonds that caught the sparse light.

I had never gone out dancing before, nor had I ever willingly set foot in a club. My parents often hosted extravagant balls and galas where I could entertain myself with various women, sipping fine drinks, engaging in historical dances, and indulging in aristocratic chatter. But this—this was something entirely different.

As we stood in line for check-in, waiting to receive what appeared to be masks, I observed the others around us. Some were young, others older, but all dressed in elegant black attire. The women, though not completely covered, weren't bare either. They embraced their beauty with confidence, wearing outfits that revealed just enough to captivate without excess. It was striking—liberating, even—to see women unafraid to display their allure, as if they had nothing to hide beneath layers of fabric.

When it was our turn, the woman behind the desk studied our outfits before handing us masks that matched perfectly.

Angella received a sleek black leather mask shaped like a fawn, which made her eyes appear even more mesmerizing. I was given a fox-like mask, its dark design amplifying my presence. "The hunter and the prey," she whispered playfully.

Thankfully, the mask didn't cover my entire face, allowing me to breathe easily. I secured the satin ribbons behind my head, positioning the mask over my eyes.

I glanced down at my "prey." She looked as if she could command the world yet flee from me in the same breath. Before she could step away, I slid my hand around her waist and pulled her closer "Scared, baby?" I murmured.

She swallowed, pausing for a brief moment before a flicker of excitement flashed across her face. "Never!" she declared, her voice laced with defiance.

With that, I led her toward the entrance of the club.

The moment I stepped inside, I was overwhelmed by an explosion of light. Neon hues illuminated the walls, mirrors adorned the ceilings, and the glossy black stone floor gleamed beneath our feet. Strands of crystals cascaded from above, catching the light like suspended stars. A second floor wrapped around the dance area, lined with balconies and plush seating, offering a vantage point over the scene below. A grand staircase led upward, positioned near what looked like a stage with towering sound systems.

At the far end, a circular bar was surrounded by people, all masked, as they poured drinks and laughed with ease. The air pulsed with upbeat Spanish music, and for the first time, I began to understand why people were drawn to places like this.

This place was magnificent.

A sanctuary where one could abandon worries, responsibilities, and burdens. A realm where socializing, indulging, and temptation intertwined seamlessly. If someone sought connection—be it fleeting or profound—this was the place for it. Yet, I wondered, how did one even dance to music like this? Waltzing certainly wasn't an option. The dance floor remained empty for now, as guests lingered at the bar, preparing themselves with drinks first.

A warm hand wrapped around my wrist, pulling me from my thoughts. I turned to find Angella at my side, smiling "You like it?" she asked.

"I think 'like' is an understatement for what I'm feeling right now... but I'm definitely mesmerized by it. What an incredible place. I can see why you wanted to come here."
