❝You thought distracting me was a good idea, didn't you?❞

Marvolo was determined to teach me some fighting stances after what had happened in Alturas last night. He told me he wouldn't always be there to save me, so I needed to learn how to defend myself. No magic—just raw physical strength. I insisted that I could handle myself in a fistfight, but then he reminded me how well I had managed against Sallow the other day. Fair point. He had been much stronger than me.

Dressed in white fighting leathers, I stood across from Marvolo, who wore white shorts and a matching sweater. Strapped to our legs were two knives and a dagger. Before we began, I had to run a few laps around the room to loosen my tense muscles and build some energy. The room we were in was one of the many that had been left unfurnished. Since we didn't need the extra space, it had been used for storage. Boxes were stacked in the corners, and on the right side, furniture sat covered beneath white sheets. Even with all of that, there was still plenty of room to train.

"Alright, I want you to hit me," Marvolo said, tapping his chin.

I let out a small chuckle. Was he serious? "I'm not going to hit you," I said, snorting.

He didn't laugh. His face remained emotionless as he tapped his chin again. "Hit me, Delgado. I want to feel your strength so I know what we need to work on."

Alright... if he insisted. I lifted my fist and punched him right in the chin. He didn't even flinch. Didn't even step back.

"Is that all you've got?" he murmured.

Frowning, I raised my fist again and hit him in the same spot, but still, he stood there like a statue, completely unfazed.

"I'm not some breakable trophy. Come on, hit me," he grinned.

"Marvolo, I gave it everything I had," I admitted, my cheeks warming with embarrassment.

He huffed. "Right... of course, you did. Let's see how strong you really are if I make you angry."

Before I could react, he suddenly started tickling my stomach.

"No, don't!" I pushed him away, but he only came back, tickling me even harder.

"Marvolo, stop!" I gasped between laughter, squirming in his grip. He knew I was sensitive just above my hips, and he took full advantage of it. He held me close, pressing his fingers into my sides.

"Stop, stop!" I squealed, eyes squinted shut from discomfort.

But he only widened his hands, roaming over my stomach as he tickled me even harder.

"I SAID STOP!"

Without thinking, I swung my fist, colliding hard with his jaw. A sickening snap echoed in the silence. Oh, shit.

Marvolo took his jaw in his right hand, grinning at me as he casually snapped it back into place with a simple movement.

"Are you alright?" I blinked, reaching up to gently touch his cheek.

"Don't worry about me, I can take a few punches," he said with a smirk. "But that was way better, Princess! That's your real strength. Hold on to that!"

He suddenly swung at my face, but I dove out of the way before he could land the hit, leaving him momentarily stunned.

"Good job. Your reflexes are solid."

"Show me how high you can kick," he instructed, stepping back to give me space.

Balancing on my right foot, I lifted my left leg and swung, my foot slamming into his muscular arm.
