❝I'd love to take you. Hell, I'd even match your outfit.❞

After cleaning my station and apologizing to Professor Sharp for Sebastian's behavior, I finally gave Garreth my answer—I would accept his invitation. The small card, sealed with a Gryffindor-red lion emblem, had asked me to sing a few cover songs with the band at the Halloween party. Of course, he was too much of a coward to ask me as his date. Not that I blamed him—he was terrified of Sebastian. And maybe that was for the best...
I made my way toward the detention room, where students gathered before receiving their assignments. Climbing the stairs, I caught a glimpse of familiar silver-white hair disappearing around the corner. Ominis.
A mischievous grin spread across my face as I crept forward, sneaking up behind him.
Before he could fully register my approaching footsteps, I launched myself onto his back with a dramatic, cackling witch's voice. "Candy or your life!" I yelled, wrapping my arms around his chest and my legs around his waist like a backpack.
In an instant, he grabbed my arms, securing them in a vice grip. Then, without hesitation, he bent forward and flipped me over his shoulder, slamming me onto the stone floor.
I burst into laughter, lying flat on my back, eyes squeezed shut from the impact.
But then, before I could react, my wand was wrenched from me, and a strong hand wrapped around my throat. My body was lifted from the ground and shoved against the cold wall. My legs dangled as I choked out a breathless, "G-give me all your candy!"
"Angel!? Are you out of your mind?"
Wait... Angel?
My eyes snapped open, locking onto sharp, piercing blue-gray ones—not Ominis's.
Marvolo.
Shit.
The murmurs of students gathering around us filtered into my ears.
"Are they fighting?"
"Should we call a professor?"
"Is he hurting her, or is this another Gaunt prank?"
Marvolo's fingers released my throat, letting me drop onto my feet. Without a moment to process, he grabbed my wrist and yanked me through the crowd.
"The show is over. Nothing to see here," he muttered, shoving open the boys' lavatory door and dragging me inside before locking it behind us.
I coughed, rubbing my neck as I glared at him. "Why the hell did you attack me like that?"
"Why did you attack me? Mid-hallway, for crying out loud!" He crossed his arms. "I thought you were one of my father's mercenaries, Delgado."
I winced. "I—" I hesitated, then sighed. "I thought you were Ominis."
He blinked ''Again?''.
"You two look the same from behind," I admitted sheepishly. "I told him about the prank so he'd be prepared for it."
Marvolo closed his eyes, exhaling, but his lips twitched into the faintest of smirks. "You and my brother are lunatics, Delgado. Absolute lunatics."
Grinning, I stepped forward and wrapped my arms around his waist. "I'm so sorry, Marvolo."
His smile widened as he gazed down at me. "It's alright, tiny mouse," he teased, hugging me back. "Honestly, I barely felt you on my back. You weigh nothing."
