This isn't a goodbye

"Sebastian, this isn't funny. Untie my hands right now," I demanded, trying to keep my voice polite despite the anger simmering beneath the surface.

He chuckled. "Come on now, just kill the spider, and you're free."

The spider crept closer, trapping me against a narrow corner of jagged rocks and tangled webs.

"JUST DO IT!" I shouted, desperation rising in my chest.

I took a step back and collided with a massive gray rock.

"Why are you playing the damsel in distress, Ang?" Sebastian teased. "We both know you can kill that thing with a blink of your eyes. I won't call you a cheater again, I swear." His grin was wide and mischievous.

But I wasn't playing. For the first time, I genuinely feared for my life.

And what disturbed me even more—I didn't know why, but a twisted part of me felt aroused by the danger.

The spider lunged, and I rolled to the side, barely dodging its attack.

I had no choice. I had to beg Sebastian for help.

I turned to him, pure terror in my eyes, a tear slipping down my cheek as I sank to my knees. "Sebastian... please, help me."

His smile disappeared in an instant. Without hesitation, he grabbed his wand—but it was too late. The spider struck, sinking its fangs into my neck.

Pain ripped through me as I screamed. A few meters away, Sebastian blasted the creature with a spell, reducing it to nothing.

He rushed to my side, dropping to his knees, his hands moving swiftly to untie the ropes. "Why didn't you use your magic?" he asked, his voice laced with worry.

"I can't use it all the time... It needs to recharge after every attack. Right now, it's drained. I have to fight and cast spells to restore it," I explained, wincing.

His jaw tightened as he pressed his hand against my wound to stop the bleeding. "Why didn't you tell me?" He pulled a bandage from his pocket.

I met his eyes. "I thought you knew, Sebastian."

Shame flickered across his face. He shook his head and carefully wrapped the bandage around my wound. Then, he helped me to my feet.

Playtime was over.

We had four more spider nests to destroy, and we needed to handle them fairly. Together, we cleared out a cottage covered in webs, rescued a terrified family, and even freed a cat tangled in silk.

One nest remained—the most dangerous of them all. People were being held hostage. I volunteered to distract the creatures while Sebastian freed the prisoners. We were a good team. Step by step, we worked our way up to the final challenge: the Absconder. It lurked in a house near the town square, its enormous body hidden in the shadows by a fountain.

I blasted the door open. The moment it saw us, we knew what had to be done—we had to lure it away from Aranshire, away from the people. We ran toward the outskirts of the village, the Absconder chasing us.

I unleashed my Ancient Magic, but it barely made a dent. Fire spells sizzled against its thick hide, useless. Even hurling boulders did little damage.

"WHAT CAN WE DO?!" Sebastian shouted from across the battlefield.
