Meanwhile...
"Good job, Mercy." Jennie happily watched Mercy eat the food she prepared for it. "He looks so scared and it's funny. Although it's weird since he resembles Lisa, but it's funny, anyway."
Her eyes were squinting, giggling as she recalled how Eric ran for his life while his complexion drained. It was a sight to behold. She should've asked Lucas to come to her. For sure, that guy would be laughing his ass off with her.
"Gosh..." Jennie wiped the corner of her eyes, pushing herself up from her squatting position to sit on the bench. "That's really fun."
When she plopped her butt down, she leaned back and turned her head. As the wind blew past her face, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. It was thanks to Butler Fu that Mercy listened to her. After all, even though Mercy wasn't attacking her and didn't see her as a piece of meat anymore, it was too early to command Mercy.
"Hay..." Jennie slowly reopened her eyes, setting her gaze on where Mercy was enjoying her food. "Mercy, you really did a good job. I was in a terrible mood today and when I came back, hearing that Grandma fainted made it worse. Thanks to you, I don't feel so upset and suffocated."
Her countenance softened as the blank panther was still eating. "Do you know what I found out today? Apparently, Eric is connected with a person who can ring all the alarm bells in my head."
"I was hoping they weren't connected, but now that I think about it, a part of me simply denied this, even when I had my guesses. After all, I've always wondered how Andrea Ng lasted in the household with that delusional head maid around," she continued, sighing. "Everything made sense with her confession, though."
Jennie took a deliberate pause, pressing her lips into a thin line, eyes on the black panther. "Mercy, I know you're listening. Right now, this household is at war. So, you should be careful."
This time, Mercy turned its head in her direction. It was still chewing the piece of meat, but it kept its eyes on Jennie.
"I'm saying this not because I think you're not capable, but desperate people have a high possibility of ruthless killing," she explained as she felt like her reminders offended Mercy. "I'm just worried about this family that we're both part of. I've always wanted a pet, but my body back then wasn't meant to keep pets around. So, I see you as my first pet."
The side of her mouth stretched into a kind smile. "I don't want you to become collateral damage. After all... these people are getting out the worst in me." Jennie instinctively placed her hand on her stomach as bitterness flickered across her eyes.
"Today, I made a grave mistake too," she confessed under her breath, smiling bitterly. "For a second, I felt irritated at being pregnant due to restrictions. I felt really guilty for even having such a thought for a second and I feel sorry for my poor baby."
With everything that was laid on the table, Jennie knew she had to take action. She couldn't slack, knowing every second was crucial. The people who wanted Lisa's head were coming from all directions. However, Bear's reminders today somehow poked a nerve. Even though Bear was simply thinking of her child, she still felt annoyed by it for a moment.
It didn't matter if this lasted for a second or longer. The fact such thoughts were crossing her was close to unforgivable.
"I want to protect everyone," she whispered, lowering her soft eyes. "Including this child in my womb... that's why it scares me. After all, whenever I want something so bad, things somehow go out of my control, as if it's this world's way to spite me."
Bitterness dominated her face, but her heart felt a little at ease at admitting these fears she couldn't tell anyone but Mercy. Perhaps it was because she felt safe in telling everything to Mercy, knowing the latter wouldn't use her fears against her in the future. Not that Lisa or others like Bear would judge her, but there was just something special in Mercy's company.
Purr...
Her brows rose when Mercy stroked its head against her shin. Mercy let out a purr, which sounded a little different as if it was simply trying to.
"Mercy..." her eyes softened even more as a subtle smile turned up on her face.
Mercy nudged her head against Jennie's leg before licking the latter's knuckles as she had her hand on her leg. Mercy might not be able to say a word, but its action was enough to console Jennie.
"Thank you, Mercy," she whispered, scratching the black panther behind the ear gently. "Don't worry. I feel better now. Although I'm scared, I learned something today. My goal is much stronger and more important than my fears. Besides, Lisa and everyone were with me. So even if I get scared, I know everyone, including you, is with me to fill the things I lack."
Jennie chuckled as she felt ticklish at Mercy's licking, blushing at how sweet Mercy could be at times. Even though Mercy had been seeing her like a piece of meat in the beginning and even tried to bite her head off a couple of times, Jennie was thankful that she didn't give up.
Grandma Manoban might've wanted Jennie to take care of Mercy, but the latter was thankful for this. Now, she had another capable ally who could support Jennie not just with her craziness, but also emotionally.

"Hahaha..." Eric frowned at the annoying laughter from the other end of the call, throwing himself on the couch. "That's hilarious."
"Stop laughing," Eric warned, clicking his tongue in irritation. "I'm going to get back on her."
"Haha..." The laughter from the other end of the line faded. "Eric, Eric, you should laugh it off and calm down."
"You will not say that if it happened to you."
"Well, true, but it didn't happen to me!" The man, with a relaxed tone, cleared his throat. "Also, I already warned you of that woman. But it seemed you still hadn't listened to me."
A moment of pause reigned in the line before the other man continued. "Jennie Kim... is one of Lisa Manoban's biggest assets. I'm saying this out of pure concern about this alliance, Eric Manoban. Drop it."
"What?"
"Focus on our plan and don't take everything she does to your heart. Don't divert your attention just because she humiliated you one time." This time, the man's voice sounded solemn. "You are no match, Eric."
Eric's expression died at the man's bluntness, which sounded more like a deliberate insult.
"I told you, didn't I?" the man added, but this time, his voice was laced with lust and admiration. "That woman was dead but then came back to life. She's mine, Eric."
