"Yes."
Jennie took a deep breath and closed her eyes at Mrs. Deng's answer. Bear's expression, on the other hand, turned dark while Lucas only furrowed his brows at the sudden shift of mood in the lobby.
'I knew it,' she thought, reopening her eyes slowly.
Bear and Jennie didn't care about ninety percent of what Mrs. Deng confessed. For them, it didn't matter what sort of information Mrs. Deng leaked to Eric throughout her five years of service. Five years was a long time and what was important was that no harm was done yet.
Even so, Jennie and Bear secretly prayed not to hear this one piece of information. Deep in their hearts, they hoped Mrs. Deng was just as clueless in this matter as she claimed. But reality proved to serve them what they didn't ask for.
"Young Madam, even if I get struck by lightning right now, I didn't collude with that woman!" Mrs. Deng defended. "Please, believe me!"
"I believe you," Jennie huffed quietly while Mrs. Deng's brows rose.
"Really?"
"Mrs. Deng, I can give you that entire closet." Jennie raised her chin slightly as her eyelids drooped. "But do me one favor."
"Fa — favor?" Mrs. Deng stuttered at the thought, almost traumatized by that word now. "What sort of favor, young madam?"
"Continue what you are doing."
"Huh?"
"Sis!" Lucas frowned. "What do you mean by that?"
"Keep working for Eric." Jennie kept her gaze fixed on Mrs. Deng, unsmiling. "But this time, you're going to work for him under my orders."
In simple terms, Mrs. Deng would continue being a spy. This time, however, she would spy on Eric under the facade of spying for him.
"In a few days, you will go back to the old residence. Do what you always do because if he finds out, you're dead." Jennie didn't sugarcoat her word, watching Mrs. Deng's already pale complexion drained. "I know you already have an idea of what he is capable of... however, Mrs. Deng, do consider that you have no idea of what I am capable of. Therefore, you better think a hundred times before betraying me."
Jennie lifted her leg from the other, bending over, and resting her arms on her spread legs. "I'm not sending you away, Mary Rose. You will stay here."
The corner of Jennie's mouth curled up into a devious smirk while Mrs. Deng's shoulder lowered. The latter felt her heart sink deeper and deeper, staring listlessly at the demon her eyes were mirroring.
"Young Madam..." Mrs. Deng blurted out under her breath. "... please, don't do this to me."
No.
Jennie's lack of sympathy displayed on her face was enough for Mrs. Deng to know no amount of begging would save her. At this moment, Mrs. Deng realized she made the biggest mistake of her life.
She should've just let Lucas chase her out. But then again, a part of her told her even if Lucas tried to kick her out, Jennie wouldn't allow that. Thinking about it, a realization finally struck Mrs. Deng.
She was doomed from the beginning.
'I should've treated her right before.' A thought crossed Mrs. Deng's mind, only to tell herself that regrets only happened after and not before. 'How did I... end up in the middle of their crossfire?'

"Sis!" Lucas called, jogging his way to Jennie as they headed to the driveway. "Are you really going to keep that delusional around this family?"
Jennie kept her eyes ahead, bearing a cold countenance as if she didn't hear her brother-in-law.
"Bear, call Tiger now," she ordered under her breath. "Lisa is in danger."
"I already pinged Mark when that maid confessed." Bear took large steps ahead, opening the backseat door for her. "Don't worry, young madam. Those three and many more bodyguards are with him."
His face hardened as he held the door open, eyes on her. "This is not good for the baby, young madam."
The second those words rolled out of his tongue, her hands slowly balled into a tight fist. Yet Jennie said nothing as she hissed, hitching inside the back seat. Meanwhile, Lucas stood a few steps away, brows furrowed, darting his eyes between the two.
"Oy, Bear, did I miss something?" he asked, earning a look from Bear.
"Second young master, please get in. We are in a hurry."
"Uh..." Lucas cleared his throat, scratching the back of his head before getting in the back seat.
As soon as Lucas got in, Bear slammed the door closed and jogged his way to the driver's seat.
"Sis, what's going on?" was Lucas's first question as soon as he got in, and after a few seconds, Bear was already in the driver's seat.
Jennie had this inexplicably sharp look on her face, staring at the driver's seat as Bear started the engine. She caught Bear glance at her through the rear mirror, but the latter's expression didn't back down. Bear wordlessly warmed up the engine before driving the vehicle away.
"Hey..." Lucas's voice pierced the building silence. "How did you know my brother is in danger? And are we really going to keep that nasty old bitch around? She's a pedophile, and it's not safe for Jevy! Who knows? In the next ten years, she might lust over my sweet nephew!?"
"Lucas, can you please be quiet?" Jennie closed her eyes as her finger was zeroing on her temple. "I'm trying to think."
"But —"
"Second young master, Andrea Ng is associated with a very dangerous person," this time, Bear explained in a deep baritone, earning Lucas's attention. "And this person turned out to be connected with your cousin, Eric Manoban. Andrea Ng was manipulated to infiltrate your brother's home by this man, but Eric was the one who made it successful through Mrs. Deng."
"In other words, this person... was already too deep in your brother's life," he added, putting it plain and simple.
Bear and Jennie kept all this information to themselves in the past, thinking they could figure things out and keep this family out of harm's way. However, with this discovery, Bear decided — even without Jennie's approval — that it was better if Lucas had an idea as well.
"What?" Lucas furrowed his brows, confused. "Wait, I don't understand. I mean, who is this woman again? Was it the maid who stabbed my sister? But didn't she stab my sister because she hates our family for that fire incident?"
"No." Jennie reopened her eyes, casting her brother-in-law a lazy look. "It's true she initially wanted vengeance. But her goal for killing me is simply to frame your brother and tarnish his reputation."
"What?!"
"Lucas, did you really think that incident... is the first time Andrea Ng tried to kill me?"
