Chapter 76: Striaton Gym

Finally the day arrived when you and Ash would battle in a gym after a long time.

"I wonder who the Gym Leader is, I wonder what Pokémon we'll battle against. Oh man, I'm so stoked! This is gonna be great, let's go!" Ash exclaimed.
"Ash, wait up!" "'rsa!"
"Let him go Arlo" you laughed, "it's been long since we last battled in a gym" you said, thinking about the last gym match in Sinnoh, against Volkner.

"So tell us, where's the Gym?" Iris smirked, sneaking behind Ash.
"Woah, Iris! The Gym...let's see, uh.." Ash starts to think, not knowing what to say.
"All ready to go but don't know where you're going. Just like a kid." Iris says, giving an apple to axew.

"Say, an axew!" An unknown voice spoke. A male with green hair and eyes walked over to the group holding a shopping bag, "Soft skin as fresh as new grass, tusks like newly sprouted young shoots, and a future as bright and limitless as the early morning sun. The perfect partner for a young lady who seems at one with nature." He smiled.

"Wow, thanks so much." Iris says.
You and Arlo looked at each other in confusion, "what...?"
"Pika?" Pikachu tilted it's head, catching the male's eyes which started to shine.
"A pikachu? It's a pikachu!~" The green haired picked him up, inspecting it closely, but before he could continue, his eyes fell on Spearow, sitting on your head and Teddiursa, holding Arlo's hand.

"A Teddiursa and a Spearow?!" He gasped, placing Pikachu back and going near you and Arlo, "Teddiursa, a pokémon just as cute as the honey it collects, with a will to grow up to be strong Ursaring, just like its trainer, who will develop to be an equally strong trainer" He said confidently, patting Teddiursa on its head.
"Uh, I would like to interrupt you a bit, but neither I nor Teddiursa wants it to evolve into an Ursaring" He sweat dropped and Teddiursa nodded.
"Huh? That's strange....but that's a personal choice, i wouldn't judge" he smiled before looking at Spearow.

"A spearow, always very protective of its territory, will always try to frighten off creatures around its territory, like how it's always around its trainer, protecting the blooming trainer from any harm. " He said, giving you Spearow back.

"You three all have rare Pokémon, you know."
"You see, we three are from Kanto. My name's Ash."
"And I'm Y/N "
"My name's Arlo"
"How do you do? My name's Cilan, a Pokémon Connoisseur"
"Oh a Pokémon Connoisseur!" You read about them a while ago in a magazine, so among the Kanto natives standing there, you were the only one who knew about them.
"What that?" Ash asked
"Of course. What a kid." Iris teased
You felt a bit irritated at Iris, "Not everyone knows about connoisseurs Iris, they're famous only in Unova, not outside, so it's quite natural for Ash to not know about them. You shouldn't have called him a kid for not knowing that" You said, making Iris slightly embarrassed by her words.

Arlo smiled to himself, feeling better that someone quieted Iris down. While Ash blushed a bit at you protecting him like that.

Cilan smiled a bit, "It's a job that isn't really known outside of the Unova Region. I use my knowledge and experience to judge the compatibility between trainers and their Pokémon. I then help them forge closer relationships and that's the job of a Pokémon Connoisseur."
"Woah! That sounds really cool!" Arlo beamed
"Thanks"
"Um Cilan, do you know the way to Striaton Gym? Me and Ash are here to challenge but can't find the gym"
"I see, that explains it. I'll take you there, follow me." He said guiding everyone towards the gym.

Once they made it to the Gym, Ash barged through the door, "Let's battle!" "Pika pika!"

Everyone was surprised to see a restaurant instead, with several female customers who were looking back at Ash in confusion.

"Huh? Hold on-" Ash said.
"This is the Striaton Gym?" Arlo asked

Cilan then took everyone to a table where he along with two other waiters, bombard Ash with questions about what he wanted to eat or drink. But after a while, Ash became frustrated and yelled, "I JUST WANNA HAVE A STRIATON CITY GYM BATTLE!"
