Chapter 68: Goodbye, strongest rival!

Finally Ash was facing Paul in just a few more hours.
As you were already out of the league yesterday, you wanted to sleep a little longer, but couldn't as Barry was yelling outside in excitement, Ash was doing the last moment training and Dawn at the end was dressing Piplup and Spearow up. AND IT WASN'T EVEN 6 AM.
"THE SUN ISN'T EVEN UP YET PROPERLY!" You shout before getting out of the shower, fully dressed, with darkened eyes.
Arlo and Dawn looking at you in disappointment and sigh.

"I mean you didn't even had to wake up early! You went through a lot of stress yesterday you could've slept a bit more, the match doesn't start until 10" Arlo says, getting a pillow thrown at his head, "ouch"
"Now c'mon! We told you to sleep, we could've went to the other room and get ready" Dawn says
"*Yawns* whatever" you mumble and look at the bed, wanting to sleep again, "let's head out"
Dawn agrees and excitedly steps out, wanting to show the others Piplup and Spearow's new clothes.

While everyone heads out, they see Paul standing near the booth, calling someone.
"Hey look it's Paul" Arlo whispers, "I want to hear what he's talking about"
"Arlo" you sigh, "don't-"
Dawn also wants to know what Paul will talk about, probably to Reggie but then thinks a something and looks at you, before tapping Arlo on the shoulder and motions him to follow him, "Y/N, stay here and listen to what he's saying"
"WHAT?!" You whisper-yell at her
"Shhhhhhh, I know you also want to know what he's talking about" he says, making you blush in embarrassment
"Okay fine" you admit
"Alright, we both will be out, you stay here" she says and heads out using another door with Arlo, so that Paul wouldn't see them leaving.

You hide behind the couch and begin to listen.

"I wish I could be there..." You heard Reggie say, the phone wasn't on speaker, but as the entire hall was empty and dead silent, you could hear him talking too.
"I know that, you've work"
"Right. So tell me, have you given any thought to changing your pokémon lineup?" He asks, making you get even more interested.
"I'm keeping it as is" he says
'so he knows what pokémons he'll use...but what will they be?'
"I'm really happy for you" Reggie says
"For what?" Paul asks in surprise
"That you and Ash and Y/N got to meet each other. There's not another trainer who's influenced you the way they did" He said, making your eyes widen
'I influenced him?'
"I have one last thing to tell you. Paul, win this! Don't underestimate Ash's skill! Then win the whole thing! You saw how yesterday's battle with Y/N turned out, she left you on the edge, if she trained her team just a little harder, she might've beaten you."
You lower your head a bit, regretting the loss slightly.
"I will win"
Reggie smiles, "later, Paul!"

As Reggie hangs up, Paul instantly looks at you, who was hiding behind the couch, just your eyes being visible.
You nervously laugh and slowly got up blushing.
"I-I'm sorry for eavesdropping- I was just heading outside and saw you and uh-" Paul doesn't listen to you and starts to walk outside.
"So tell me, how's he?"
"He? You mean Ash? I didn't saw him since I woke up but he's training outside" you say and follow him outside.

The sun was finally rising, and if Paul wasn't with you, you would probably want to sleep, but your mind is finally occupied now, so sleep isn't something to think about.

"Do you want me to get Ash?"
"Please don't. No need" he stops finally, making you also stop.
"Uhm okay?"
"I just don't like him" Paul says, "he talks just like my brother, friends, trust, my brother says those things all the time, too"
"But Paul, Ash isn't Reggie, he's just Ash." You say and stay quiet, until Ash calls you with the rest, all of them being at the far end of the path, so Ash starts to run towards you two.

"Look, Ash is like any other trainer I'd have to battle in the semi-finals and I'm going to have to beat him if I want to win the Sinnoh League" He says making you nod, as the two of you watch him come near, "how're you feeling now? You didn't cry after that, did you?" He asks
"Uhm, im fine and no, i didn't cry...I'm just a bit sad about the loss, but its fine"
"Hmm" He nods, and Ash finally stops in front of you.
