"How could you keep this from me?! It was Eva who had to be the one to tell me? You let me look like an idiot for this long!?" Yeonjun is trying not to yell at Jae, but it becomes increasingly hard with each word he says.
"Yeonjun, it's not that I didn't want to tell you, I didn't know about this until later on, and even then, I was busy getting Jiis adoption sorted and returning to you" Jae tries to explain but the Prince wasn't listening, too blinded by his betrayal.
"You should have told me."
"And if I did, then what? What would you have done? Nothing would have changed. You still would have had to get married, and you would have still been separated from Beomgyu. If I told you, you would had only rebelled even more than you did, and it would had only made the process more difficult for you. I thought I did the right thing."
Again, Beomgyu was waiting outside of the door. This time, it was Jaes bedroom that the prince was inside. He could hear the conversation perfectly because the both of them were raising their voice with each passing second.
Yeonjun had wanted to talk to his dad himself, and Beomgyu respected it. Although, he's starting to feel a bit useless. It seems like all he does is listen and stand by. Does anything he do have any significance?
Then suddenly, they stop talking. For a moment, Beomgyu wonders if they had lowered their voice or grown silent all together. The photographer presses his ear against the door.
"Did... did Soobin know?" Yeonjun asks the question he had been dreading.
Jae sighs and rubs the back of his neck. "He had his suspicions, but we all feared that he would tell you if he had confirmation."
That was all Yeonjun truly needed to hear. Knowing that at least his best friend didn't betray him brought him some much needed comfort.
"Yeonjun, what does this even change? At the end of the day, Beomgyu is still with you" The prince glares at the man standing in front of him.
"It changes everything. I'm about to be King, and I don't even know if I can trust my own circle. "
Jae shakes his head. "That's not fair, Yeonjun. When i knew for months about your whereabouts, I never told anybody. I risked my freedom for your happiness." Jae locked his jaw to help maintain his rising anger.
"My whereabouts?" The prince laughs dryly,"it was my home, "
"No, it wasn't! It was just a fantasy, those people didn't even know your real name, Yeonjun! And as much as you hate it; this -" He waves his arms in the air gesturing to their surroundings " - this is your home, and we are your family!"
"You're not even my blood" Yeonjun regretted his words as soon as they left his mouth, and the painful gasp Jae let out only added salt to the wound.
The Prince takes a step back and he catches a glimpse of his reflection in the mirror. From his enraged outburst in the dining room to now, he couldn't recognize himself.
Without another word or much thought he hastily leaves the room.
Beomgyu still had his ear pressed against the door when it opens. The sudden action along with the Prince shining past him almost knocked him down but he quickly composed himself.
"Yeonjun," Beomgyu calls after him
"I just need a minute," he says through tears, his back turned to the photographer still hastily making his exit.
Beomgyu turns back to Jae bedroom in an attempt for some kind of answer to a question he doesn't even know exists, but the door is slammed shut, leaving his alone in the hallway.
