"Are you going to tell us what that was about?" Megan asked from the back and she leaned forward towards Zach.

I turned towards him but he just looked up the rear-view mirror to meet Megan's eyes. "Do you really need me to tell you how unhinged an alpha with his emotions off can be?"

I shook my head. "That didn't look like no emotion." Zach turned to look at me for a moment before he shrugged.

"I think he said it enough times Hayls. It was about disrespect. It's his instincts to demand it, even from you." He looked over his shoulder. "All of you.

Scarlett scoffed. "Why should we respect him when he talked to her like that?"

"It's not hard." He defended. "You and Meg don't need to do anything differently, you're friends. What happened between you two shouldn't have happened." He directed towards me making me frown.

"What do you mean? The thing last night?"

Zach nodded. "You baited him Hayls."

I scoffed. "It's always my fault isn't it." He winced in frustration, like he was holding back. "Be a good girl for Daniel, Haylie. Don't upset Daniel, Haylie." I mocked. "Is everyone forgetting what he did to me?"

He didn't respond but I watched his fingers tighten on the wheel. Megan sat back in her seat with a loud sigh. "What about new year's?"

"What about it?" He mumbled.

"Well should we still come to your party at the garage? I don't really want another night like this."

He waited a moment, his eyes darting over to me before he shrugged. "You can make your own decisions."

Megan scoffed back. "Doesn't really feel like that."

We fell into a silence again until Zach dropped off Megan and Scarlett. "What do you want to talk about?" I gritted out, remembering the last time we were alone together. The horrible things he said that made me feel like I was stupid for believing we were friends.

He was silent for a minute before he spoke, keeping his eyes on the road. "I tried to warn you." He mumbled but I didn't understand. "What just happened, it's the only the start unless we do something about it."

I shook my head. "What are you talking about?"

"I heard him Hayls. He was honest with you, he was trying to warn you in his own way. You baited him." I scoffed. "I'm not saying that in a way like it's your fault. You stood up for yourself as you should. But," He trailed off taking a deep breath. "With his emotions off, he has no reason to hold back with you. His wolf is at the surface, watching, waiting and it wants you."

He fell silent again but I waited for him to continue. "I don't think Danny can turn that off. That instinct. It's still too raw."

"You think he tried to warn me?"

"I think one more second and his wolf would have been out. I think he's fighting with himself. I think on the inside, he's screaming at you to run but you won't."

I looked down to my lap. "You think I should." It wasn't a question but he still nodded. "How do I do that? He'll still be my teacher. I'll still..." I wasn't ready to confess to Zach that I still loved him. I felt like an idiot for it. I didn't need Zach to tell me that and I was sure that he would. "What did you say to him? To calm him down?"

"It doesn't matter." I scoffed again and turned my attention to the dark night outside. Maybe it was my frustration that forced Zach to continue. "I said some stuff that wasn't true."

I turned back to him and could tell he was begging for me not to ask. "Like what?"

I could tell he didn't want to tell me but it was too bad. It was about me and I was tired of people trying to shelter me from the truth. He sighed again and leant an elbow on the side of the door. "I told him you are so pathetically in love with him that he doesn't need to worry about anyone else wanting you." That was a shot to the chest. "I said if he wants to keep his emotions off then he should stay away from you because you were a stupid little girl that didn't know when to stop."
