"I shouldn't even be going." I complained as I continued staring at myself in the full-length mirror in Megan's bedroom. I was wearing a short sequin skirt with a simple black body suit. Jamie already told us it wasn't formal, 'just think Christmas party'.
"We can't go without you." Scarlett groaned from her position on the floor tying her shoes. "Plus you said it's a big party, you don't even need to speak to Danny."
I had told them everything and believe me they weren't happy with the entire conversation. They thought I was an idiot for opening myself up to get hurt like that and they think he's a pig for speaking to me the way he did.
I text him this morning after I realised I would still have to attend the party even if Megan and Scarlett dragged me there by my hair. I told him I didn't need the ride, but he never responded. I could see he read it though.
Maybe that was a good thing.
"Just focus on having fun with your friends." Megan said as she stood next to me, checking her lipstick while she brushed out her curls with her fingers. I smiled at her through the mirror, wondering how she would react later when Jamie gave her the Christmas present.
I nodded my acceptance and straightened my back to appear confident and ran my own fingers through my long-straightened hair. Megan for some reason was so much better than I was with hair. She had made it straight to the point it reached my lower back, and I actually liked it. My hair was parted down the middle and my smoky eyes made me look sexier than normal. At least I hoped they did.
I shouldn't even be attempting sexy after what happened with Daniel yesterday. But I couldn't help myself. I wanted to appear unbothered by all of it. I didn't want anyone looking at me with pity. Poor heartbroken Haylie.
"Let's go. J's here." Megan smiled down at her phone and I shared a smile with Scarlett over it before reaching for my shoulder bag and giving one last spray of my cinnamon perfume before we left.
I tried not to be nervous but the entire drive all I could think about was Daniel. Would we say hi? Would we be normal? Should I apologise again, or should he apologise to me? He wouldn't apologise to me.
"You guys' head in." Jamie announced as he parked outside the Parker family home. "I just need to speak to Meg for a minute."
Scarlett and I couldn't leave the car quicker while Megan shot us daggers. "I really hope they just get together and stop playing games." I said looking over my shoulder at the white land rover as we ascended the steps.
"Megan would never make the first move. So, Jamie just needs to grow some balls." I laughed just as the door opened with a frowning Anne.
"Do I want to know why you're talking about Jamie's balls?" I laughed and fell into her arms for a hug.
"Anne this is Scarlett." I introduced and Anne was quick in pulling my friend into a hug as well. "Megan's still in the car with Jamie."
Anne pulled away with a knowing smirk. "Now I understand Jamie's balls."
"Mum." Simon groaned as he approached. "Haylie." He greeted with a completely different tone as he placed a kiss to my cheek and introduced himself to Scarlett. "Everyone's in the main living room if you want to head through."
I nodded and took Scarlett's hand. "Main living room? Who has a 'not' main living room." She tried to whisper as she examined the tall ceilings and expensive décor.
"A house full of werewolves that hear every word." Ben called as we entered.
I couldn't help my eyes searching the room as Ben approached. Zach stood up from the couch, Sammy's baby in his arms and god damn him why did he have to be holding a baby. It's harder to hate people who hold babies.
