"i'm glad you guys had a nice drive." Maddie smiled at her parents with Buck sitting next to her.
"we saw a lot of the country." Phillip says.
"the first few days, there was nothing but rain, then we got here, blue skies and sunshine." Margaret smiles as Chimney and Aurelia walked over joining their partners.
"yeah, we had a lot of rain earlier in the year, but, uh, lately, it's been dry." Buck smiled at his mother, Aurelia took a seat next to him placing her hand on his arm.
"hmm." Margaret only nodded at her son's words, Aurelia's brows slightly furrowed looking at Buck, he looked her slowly shaking his head placing his hand above hers.
"Aurelia, is it?" Margaret asks the redhead, Aurelia looked up from her hands nodding, "how did you two meet?"
"my dad's the captain at our fire station, i went to go visit him the day Buck first joined the 118 and we became close friends. we made it official last Christmas." Aurelia rubbed her thumb against Buck's palm smiling at his mother.
"that was a long time. why wait so long?" Margaret responded with a small laugh.
"she travelled for a bit," Buck squeezed his girlfriend's hand, "Aurelia spent a year in Spain and came back my second year at the 118."
Margaret nodded looking back at Aurelia, "and is your father okay with two of his firefighters being together? isn't there a rule about that or something?"
"my dad is really supportive on our relationship, we promised him to keep it professional at work." Aurelia's head turned to Buck who was looking down at her hand tracing his finger over her ring finger.
"i-i can't believe you drove all the way across the country in an RV- that sounds exciting." Albert interrupted on the conversation with a smile.
"statistically speaking, it seemed the safest way to travel right now." Phillip points out with the pandemic currently happening.
"yeah. we didn't wanna take any chances, given Maddie's condition and it being a high-risk pregnancy."
"well, no, it's not really high-risk-" Chimney interrupts.
"oh, she's over thirty five. that puts her at a higher risk," Aurelia's eyes widened turning her head to Buck, "so we all need to be extra careful." Margaret says.
