Summary: Now newlyweds, Taylor and Travis are ready for the next step they feel like they've been preparing for since the first date: having children. The journey isn't easy, though, and what once started as an exciting thing turns into a lot of crying, sad conversations, and worrying about what's even possible.

Trigger Warnings: infertility

Four times, the same result. Tears every time. They were now approaching the fifth time. The fifth time of being hopeful for results that always let them down. The fifth time of crying in the bathroom the second the test came up negative. The fifth time of saying, 'It's okay. It'll happen next time!' When they both know that it won't.

Taylor sniffled, angrily rubbing at the tears leaking out of her sorrowful eyes. Travis stood next to her, his arms on her shoulders. He tried to keep the tears in for both of them. He was hurting just as much as she was, but both of them breaking down wasn't gonna help anyone. So while she broke down and sobbed, Travis just held her and kept his tears in, saving them for the shower when he was alone.

"I know, baby, I'm sorry this keeps happening. But we just need to be patient. It'll happen soon." Travis tried to comfort her, rubbing his hands over her shoulders.

"That's all we keep saying, Trav!" Taylor snapped. "Every single time. 'Oh, it'll happen next time,' and clearly it fucking won't."

Travis let her scream, let her get all of her anger out. Taylor's sobs got louder as she folded back into Travis and they both slid down to the floor.

"This is all my fault," Taylor spoke between sobs. "I'm 36. It's clearly too late for me."

"Baby, c'mon. Don't say that." Travis sighed.

"Why? It must be true at this point. Being in denial isn't helping anything, Travis." Taylor replied.

Travis sighed but didn't say anything, choosing to just hold Taylor tighter and place a kiss on her temple.

No other words were exchanged, but Taylor didn't make any move to get up off the floor, so neither did Travis. He just sat there, holding her in his arms as she cried everything out.

What felt like an eternity later, Travis finally spoke up. "Are you hungry, sweetie? I can order something. Whatever you'd like."

Taylor sniffled. "I think I'm just gonna go to bed."

"Are you sure? It's pretty early?" Travis replied, and Taylor nodded. "Yeah. I just wanna forget about this day."

"Fair enough," Travis replied, moving to help him and Taylor to their feet.

"Can you come to bed too? I just want to be held right now," Taylor asked with that soft, innocent look on her face.

"Of course, baby. Let's get you in bed. I'm just gonna take a very quick shower, and I'll be right there to hold you, okay?"

Taylor nodded, and Travis moved to walk with her towards their bed. Taylor was already in her comfy clothes, so she just crawled into bed and got comfortable under the covers.

"Alright, 15 minutes at most and I'll be right back to cuddle with you to sleep, okay?" Travis said, brushing Taylor's hair out of her face.

She let out a little noise of acknowledgment. "Uhm," she sniffled. "If I manage to fall asleep when you get back, can you still cuddle me?"
