Summary: Sam's dream is to make it to the World Series, and he knows he can do it when you're by his side. His best friend. However, things shift when you and his teammate get closer than he would have liked. He lets the little green monster take over his thoughts when he should be focused on the World Series.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sam's biggest dream is to go to the World Series. He's been gunning for that spot for years now, but his team has never gotten to play. There's always a team just slightly better than his, despite what you tell him. He is a phenomenal baseball player, but he doesn't always see it.
However, this season, his team has been beating other teams left and right.
You have a perfect view of the field from behind the home plate, where the wives and girlfriends of the players sit. You're neither, but Sam's best friend. You have been since you two were kids. He used to come over and play baseball with your dad since he didn't have a son to play catch with. Neither you nor your sisters wouldn't dare to break a nail to catch a baseball.
It's Sam's turn to bat, and you're hanging off the edge of your seat in anticipation.
"You got this, Sam!" you yell.
Sam looks at you and smirks slightly before focusing on the pitcher. He's the youngest on the team, yet the most skilled. He's been carrying the entire team all season, and that's not an exaggeration. Sam taps the bat on the home plate before getting ready to hit the ball. The pitcher stares at Sam, hoping he can make Sam uneasy. It's a trick all pitchers have done to Sam, but none of them have succeeded.
It's Sam's dream to go to the World Series, and nothing is going to stop him from getting there.
The pitcher winds up and throws the ball, but Sam doesn't hit it. It's too close to him to hit properly. You stand up and grip the railing in front of you. He's been doing well all season.
"Come on, Sam, hit the ball."
The pitcher throws another ball, but again, Sam doesn't hit it.
"Can you throw a freaking ball right?!" you yell to the pitcher, even though he doesn't hear you.
"He's known to throw balls like that," one of the wives says. "Unfair as fuck."
Sam holds the bat tighter and stares down the pitcher. The pitcher winds up and throws the ball right in the perfect spot. Sam cracks the bat against the ball, and the crowd goes wild. He drops the ball and immediately runs to first base while the other team's players run to catch the ball. The ball soars across the field and ends up in some fan's mitt.
Home run.
You cheer along with everyone else as Sam continues to run across the field, hitting every base. The crowd goes wild as Sam runs, and he uses it as fuel to run faster, even though it's a home run.
As Sam runs to the home plate, he looks for you in the crowd. You give him two thumbs up to show your support with a wide smile.
It comes as no surprise that Sam's team won the game, and the entire audience is on a high. It was such a good game; one step closer to the World Series.
Everyone in the entire stadium is slowly exiting, but you push through the crowd to get to the locker rooms, where you know Sam is. He likes to take a quick shower and change into regular clothes before joining you. Some of the wives are hanging around, while others are getting some food at the few stations that are still open.
