Summary: What you think is going to be a boring summer at your grandfather's farm turns out to be a nightmare when something out of this world attacks your brother. Now it's trailing you, and there is only one person you can call for help.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It sucks to be back home. Not that you're not happy to see your grandfather and brother, but it means you're taking a step back. You moved out five years ago to pursue a degree in criminal justice. School has been hard and expensive, and your waitressing job just isn't cutting it anymore. Your grandfather told you he'd pay you to come back home and tend to the farm for the summer, and the money was too good to pass up. It's more than you'd make as a waitress, and you need to save as much as you can before you go back to school.

You love your grandfather, but you hate this farm.

The rooster wakes you up at the ass crack of dawn. He never failed to wake you up when you were younger, and now it's no different.

"Y/N!" your brother calls from downstairs. "We got chores to do!" You squeeze your eyes shut and throw the pillow over your head. Since you didn't respond, your brother's thunderous footsteps can be heard on the staircase. Your door opens, and then you feel a weight over you. "Wake up."

"Get off me," you complain.

"Not until you get up. I'll sit on your face and fart."

Your eyes snap open, and you push your brother off you. He did that to you once, and you never made the mistake of oversleeping again. James laughs and gets up from the ground. He leaves your door open as he goes back downstairs.

Time to get to work.

After getting ready, you follow James outside. "I'll take the chickens and cows. You take the horses, goats, and pigs."

You turn left and head to the horse stables. There are five of them in total, and one of them is pregnant. You walk over to her and stick your hand out. She sniffs it before she nuzzles the palm of your hand.

"Hi, pretty girl. How is your baby doing?" You reach into your pocket and produce a carrot for her. She eats it up quickly. "That's my girl. I'll check on you later, okay?"

You feed the other horses the rest of the carrots you brought, and you walk over to their feeder to top it off. You make sure their trough is filled with water before moving onto the goats. They're baby ones, so they are eager for their milk. You have a wooden stand that has holes for the nipples of the bottles to go through.

You can hear them bleating from inside the wooden house your father made for them. You set each bottle through the hole and walk over to the front door. The second you get it open, a herd of goats comes barreling through. They run over to the wooden stand and latch onto whatever nipple they can find. Some of them are leaning over others, so you straighten them up and watch them drink hungrily at the milk.

"You guys and your milk. Just wait until you get older. I'll be right back."

You walk away to tend to the pigs, but something isn't right. The hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Something is watching you. You look behind you, but no one is there. The farm is nestled right outside the first, so you try to see something through the trees. Movement. A shadow. Something.

Nothing.

Suddenly, there is a ruffle of leaves. You snap your head to the right, but nothing is there. Maybe it was the wind. When is it ever just the wind? You ignore the voice in your head and continue walking toward the pig pen. Your father built them a home to provide shade against the harsh sun, but most of the pigs are lounging in the mud piles that James always maintains.
